Glue Basting. Tried for the first time.

I tried out glue basting on my new granddaughter's doll quilt. I used my pampered chef pizza roller to spread out the glue.

Let it dry, quilted it. I didn't have any particular difficulties with the sandwich.

Trimmed off the leftover batting/backing. Bound the quilt. It's done. So, my backing scraps were laying on the table. I grab them, and start pulling off the batting. Some of it is stuck pretty well.

I take it to the bathroom & wash it with palmolive (what's in my foamy pump).

DREAD in my heart...It's NOT coming out. My mind is on the quilt I've just finished, oh no, what happened? It isnt washing out, it wont wash out of the quilt either. It was an older bottle, maybe I had transferred some REAL glue into the SCHOOL GLUE bottle?

What am I going to do? all those hours & fabric wasted in an unusable quilt.

sigh.

it was trimmed off stitching from where I'd sewed the perimeter of the quilt to the backing. Had got trimmed off in the square up process.

the batting was SEWED to the backing.

ROFL

All's well, ended well.

I did take pictures, but I still haven't mastered sizing them properly.

Later on that.

I am more comfortable with pin basting, the old fashion way. I use to enjoy doing the pinning at my LQS. Such an enjoyable day talking with other quilters and seeing all the new fabric.

I love glue basting. I just washed a quilt I finished today that I had glue basted. I found that the glue comes out best for me when I use warm water. I usually wash in cold water. I also used a water soluble marking pen to do the quilting for the first time and that worked wonderfully as well. I did wet down the quilt with a spray bottle to get those marks out as it said not to use detergent to get it out and I wanted to used detergent to get the glue out.

I LOVE GLUE BASTING! I recently tried it and it's wonderful. Wish I had learned about it years ago. Well, I guess I did read about it here on this forum but it took a loooonnnnnggggg time for me to give in and try it. Also recently purchased a pinking blade for my rotary cutter - WOW! My two best discoveries of 2014 - so far!
