glue and hand quilting
I see much praise for gluing back etc to quilts . Does this work for hand quilting? I tried it once and found it made hand quilting torture. Was it what I did? I usually hand baste ..

I don't think glue basting works for hand quilting. However, I have seen some hand quilters say that they can quilt easily with spray basting. With spray basting I would use 505 and a very light touch (not too much basting spray). I would also probably hand baste the edges.

I am a hand quilter and I can't imagine trying to quilt through glue no matter how little you use. I would get tough and I'm sure it would gum up your needle.

I glue baste and machine quilt. I don't think it would work for hand quilting as the parts where the glue is are very hard to put a needle through by hand. I have to be careful in not getting glue on the edge of my binding or in the corners of my binding as it is very hard to sew there with a hand needle. I also have run into issues where I tie off and bury my thread ends from quilting. If it happens to stop on a glue spot trying to get the hand needle through to bury the tread is a challenge. I can't imagine running into that all over the quilt with hand quilting.

i can't imagine either, so i also hand baste. I use the Sharon Schamber method and I find that easy, quick, and relatively compact use of space.

Spray basting has caused me no trouble at all! But where I've needed glue? YUK! Very difficult to do! Really need a thimble. I would try it on a scrap layer of fabric first!
