glue sticks
can the glue sticks that are purple and turn clear ok for glueing fabric or should I used the clear ones to start with?
Thank you. |
It has been so long since I bought the purple ones. Rub some on a piece of fabric. I think they dry clear.
|
Will be looking to see if they work.
|
The ones I have dry clear!!
|
The ones that I used did, but then I didn't really care because the glue washes out
|
Purple is fine, just make sure they say "washable".
|
Purple has worked for me and they do wash out.
|
I use the purple ones all the time, have never had any problems. I use them to baste my pieces for English paper piecing. The glue washes away and works fine. Sometimes I prefer the purple glue just because it's easier to see where I have it.

I use the purple Elmer's School glue a lot on fabric. It dries clear and washes out.
|
I use them all the time.
For art quilts its never a problem and if and when the quilt is washed its gone anyway! |
thank you everyone

I use the purple ones when I just want to stick on a fabric to my hooped project. It has never shown up on the finished work when completed.

I prewash my fabric before construction, so if I used glue stick on a quilt and didn't wash it before gifting, would that cause any problems with the glue being left there for a length of time (cuz I know some people don't wash their new gift quilt for a long time after receiving it)? Thanks for any info.

I also have used the purple & it dries clear. No problems at all using it

I was just a few minutes ago watching Nancy's Sewing on making landscape quilts. I was really surprised when she was saying to use a glue stick for gluing paper on the fabric pieces to stick onto the fabric background, and then I saw her use a glue stick that was purple. I would guess that if Nancy would use this for her quilts, then it should be alright to use.

Be sure your glue sticks are washable -- I ordered washable from Amazon and they sent me permanent. When I tried to return them they would not give me free postage. I gave them to DGS since he can use them for school.

Elders has a washable glue. You can temporarily heat set it.
