God's Eye Quilt

Has anyone made the God's Eye Quilt from Quilters Cache? (20" block)

azwendyg 08-22-2012 11:17 AM

I LOVE that block... going to make one someday!

NanaCsews2 08-22-2012 11:48 AM

I have made the block, but I used it in a Quilt of Valor quilt for my brother. It was fairly easy to make, HST's and squares. I had to reduce it to a 12" block, but no problems there. In place of her black in the block, I used small gold star fabric, for her blue, I used the red w/white stars, and for her red, I used the blue w/white star fabric.

I've never noticed that block before. Very pretty. And it does look a lot like the yarn "God's Eye"s that I've done before. IMO, it would be majestic in a big block--------60" square or so.

hopetoquilt 08-22-2012 03:01 PM

It is beautiful. Thanks for the idea.

Don't you often wonder where and how and why some patterns get their names....this one is so interesting....but I wonder what its history is

crafty pat 08-23-2012 08:39 AM

I just printed it off a couple of weeks back to make a quilt for my DD. I just love and think it will be a beautiful quilt.

KwiltyKahy 08-23-2012 02:31 PM

I have used it as the center of a quilt. Batiks and black, much like the picture. It was outstanding. Wish I had taken a picture before I gave it away.

wishfulthinking 08-24-2012 02:45 AM

Beautiful block. Looks like black & batiks would be the way to go.

helenquilt 08-24-2012 04:24 AM

I just finished it in blues with a white center. I did a 16" block. I only did one block. Our club has a challenge of old patterns and their history. Sorry I don't have a picture, my camera is packed.

Thank you for that! I was just going to look it up. That block is very pretty! Kind of majestic.

carolynjo 08-24-2012 06:20 AM

Lovely. As a basketmaker, I use the God's eye design when making certain baskets.

Latrinka 08-24-2012 08:01 AM

Never seen it before. It is beautiful!

Here is one a girl from the quilt guild did and won a prize for it. Now the quilt guild is going to make one next month for a charity quilt. Then I plan on doing one, but I'm going to wait to see which back ground color I like best. Both light and dark are beautiful.

Deborahlees 08-24-2012 08:20 AM

OK....question....does anyone know how this pattern got its name.....

JuanitaBean 08-24-2012 10:31 AM

I would like to know more about it history too. Thanks Juanita

sueinstitches 08-24-2012 10:49 AM

My daughter made one block for a quilt for her senior project for college, it was beautiful! I am going to make a wall hanging for her dorm using her favorite sayings and a block on each side,She will graduate in December and God has been with her through all her sickness. This is the only block that fits.

Yes, I have and love that block. If you're thinking of making this, the only real advice I can offer is to definitely stay organized. It has a lot of pieces and can get turned around very easy. I cut the pieces out then laid them out next to my sewing area and worked it that way. I kept laying out the pieces to keep it organized. Not saying I still didn't turn things around once in a while LOL..

I made this for a wedding gift. Although, I'm not a big fan of batiks and these were not colors I would choose, I was happy with the results. I also used a QAYG method to put together so when it was done....it was done.

Where did you find the smaller size? I want to make this again in a smaller block but didn't have a clue (with all these pieces) on how to make it smaller.

ooooooo.....I really like this one!!! Now I definitely have to make another one in colors "I" like. I think scrappy does this block very well.

debbieoh 08-25-2012 06:07 PM

I made God's Eye yarn wall hangings for my two older kids years back and a few dozen Christmas ornments too.

Mottsy 04-13-2014 01:42 PM

I have made one, and plan on another with black and white for the crayon challenge at our guild! It just may fit the bill!

Look carefully at the pieces. Made up of HST and squares. You can see the seams if you look closely.

Jinney 04-17-2014 08:06 PM

I made 1 block a few years ago, and that was enough for me, it is a beautiful block but I didn't have the patience for more than that 1, maybe I should try it again. I have grandkids now so I have learned patience.

zennia 04-17-2014 11:40 PM

I made this block before I really knew what I was doing. It was fun to do as long as you keep everything organized. Unfortunately I used the wrong colors and hated it. Gave it to nursing home where it was loved.

I made this one. Want to make 2 for my DS & DD + 3 for my brothers as wall hangings. Every pattern I do is PP! They do make up 16".
