I sort of went by the seat of my pants with this rag quilt. Did i totally mess it up or will it be ok??

Super quilt..I have not done a rag quilt yet but will certainly keep this one in mind. It will be really cozy after being washed and I have great liking for the 30's reproductions.
it looks absolutely fine to me. now clip those seams and you are done.
I haven't made one yet but, looks good to me. Make sure you quilt a line through both ways of each square. Clip it and you are finished. Nice colors.
Thank you both. Going to stop at store and get rag scissors.

definitly get rag scissors, i did mine with regular scissors never do that again. your quilt is beautiful
Looks great! I always double seam around the quilt in case I snip too close. If the store has them get Heritage rag scissors. They are the most comfortable to use.
Looks wonderful, so far!
Your quilt looks great and no one would ever think of it as a "seat of your pants" quilt. I don't have the rag scissors yet either, but I have read that they make the snipping go a lot quicker and easier on your fingers.
You do very well by the seat of your pants! Keep going, nice job!
If you do all your quilts by the seat of your pants you'll be winning ribbons soonest.
Looks good!
I really like that! Your fabrics are great for a rag quilt!!
Ditto nativetexan. What she said! Love the colors!

what do you think you did wrong.

Great Job. Looks like your "flying" off to a great finish. I like it very much. Didn't know there were special rag scissors. Great tips ladies. This is on my list of things to try. Will book mark this so I remember where I saw it. :)
Great job...but be sure to stitch an x through the middle of each square.
Looks great sew far- just need to clip all those seams and wash it to fluff up. Well done
What's the problem? Is there a problem? I don't see any problems. Looks just great to me! :D

Kyia Do one row with your regular scissors so you can really apprecate the rag snips. |

You did a beautiful job. Clip, wash and you are all set.
Very Nice. Love the colors. Take it to the laundromat for the first washing. Let them deal with all the fuzz that comes off the clippings. This is the quilt that stays on my couch year round. So cozy that my husband thinks all my quilts should be rag quilts.
Love it! I have never tried one but it looks like it would be fun.
remember to put that X in each square so fabric and batting will shrink together. Looks great, they are so cozy.
It certainly looks good to me. Nice job.
Very pretty. love the backing fabric
My first rag quilt I didn't put an 'X' in the middle of the fabrics. My son washed the quilt and all the batting is balled up in a corner of each rag piece. He just lays it across his couch. I need to make him another one the correct way. I've made him many quilts, but he loved the rag quilt before he washed it. I didn't know better at the time.

Looks great to me ,but they usually don't have a lining, it is part of the block. But there is no law saying you can't line them.
I think it looks great, as far as the scissors I have a small Fiskar's that springs back open and they worked great for my son's rag quilt, the blades are short so it is easy just to clip what you should.
Looks great!

Looks great to me!
It'll be fine.
I can't imagine what you thought might be wrong with it, and I especially like the way you've worked in some four-patch blocks. The only thing you could possibly do wrong is wash it in your home washing machine, and that would be a lot worse for the machine and plumbing than for the quilt! I took a large one to the local laundromat and asked the attendant if there would be any problem with it, and he said to go ahead. They have special filters on the plumbing, and the oversized machines are very sturdy.
Looks great, you didn't mess up.

I think it is just great. When I make my rag quilts, I sew a stitch 1/2" from the outside edge, and clip the edge also. I also make my cuts in the "ruffle" area about 1/4" apart. You can wash a rag quilt with a large terry towel to make it ruffle more. The quilt is absolutely fantastic. You did a good job.
This is one that I made recently. Just trying to show you how I do the edge. |
Clipping and washing hides a multitude of sins.
