My son has requested a 'camo' quilt, and I'm frantically running around trying to throw something together to take on vacation with me last minute. I'm talking SIMPLE no-mind vacation quilting (with a cold beverage in-hand). I found 8 different colors of 4" squres that I cut out years ago (including a camo one), and I wondered if anyone could throw some advice at me of what I could make out of them. I was really trying to use stuff from my stash, and he likes these colors. I had started a triangle quilt many (many!) years ago using these fabrics, but I hated the quilt and the pattern and just didn't enjoy the process so I quit. Perhaps I can figure out how to use them now? The only think I can think of is 9-patch, but then I need to figure out a layout.

You could do a D9P.

How about a 1/2" square triangle quilt? Use one dark square, one light square, draw diagonal line down center from corner to corner, sew 1/4" away from line (will be 2 lines sewn) then cut on line... square up if needed. Simple and can be arranged in many designs.

a 10-minute block? 4" is kinda small, the smallest I've done is 5" charms, so I'd try one block before committing. But I do love that pattern and it is sooooo quick and easy.

Use the camo and the various greens as the corner squares (positions 1,3,7 & 9) of the D9P, the beige, the black and the kaiki (sp?) randomly for positions 2,4,5,6 & 8.
Quick, easy and should look awesome! |
I agree, the 10 min block. They're quick and easy. I finished a small baby quilt and working on 6 1/2 squares for my two GS.

How about a sudoku quilt?

you could just lay the colors out in diagonal rows

i would just do a "rag" quilt with them if you have enough squares already.

Some great ideas here, thanks! I really wish I didn't care so much, because it's obvious my son's not really "into" quilts yet. Just really wanted to make him something nice because I feel he's been jipped in the quilt area. I'm sure I'm over-thinking this.
I enjoy vacation, don't get me wrong, but I just am a homebody and if hubby could honestly stay home here for a week and NOT work, I'd be content with that. I feel like I need to pack my stash and every quilt pattern I could possibly want to make when I'm away. Crazy since I'll only be gone for 5 days! Thanks again... |
