I am going to visit a friend in Ludlow, VT. Near Okemo. Does anyone know of quilt shops I could visit enroute from Boston to Ludlow or in the Ludlow vicinity? Thanks!!

No, but I wish I could go with you!! :)
That's the only New England state I haven't been to. Love that part of the country! :) Hope you have a good trip! |

there is a shop called Quiltaway fabrics right off I-91 in Westminster VT - I have never been there but hear good things about it.

There is a nice shop in Wilmington, called the Norton House. You probably won't go that way.

Too bad about not making it to Wilmington as Norton House is a very nice shop with a bargain attic and their prices are reasonable on the regular priced stuff downstairs and if you spend $30 or more you get free fudge next door! I'd say it is worth the road trip. An hour drive in Vermont is all beautiful and I bet you could map out a shop hop. |

Worth a drive if you're at all near them. I found things in both that I haven't seen locally (New Jersey). Norton House is also very good and has some special "Vermont collections" of f/q's. Both Waterwheel and Country Treasures were on main roads. I had no idea they existed but saw their signs as we drove by so they'd be easy for you to find. Waterwheel had a nice bench outside where my husband sat happily while I shopped and shopped. Country Treasures, as I recall, looks small but once inside it was much larger than I expected. Spent some $ there too.

My DD says to be sure and stop at Ticklenaked Pond! The farmhouse up the road has t-shirts you can buy to support the pond!
Not a quilting spot but we had to stop just because of the name! It was a beautiful lake....er pond. |
that is way up in Groton, quite a trip from Ludlow.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I have a route planned and I will post reviews of my stops.

There's an absolutely terrific quilt shop in Chester and I don't think it's to far from Okemo. I just love this shop and you won't be disappointed.

I actually drove up to Chester last Saturday to go to Country Treasures. I like the shop but they do not have air conditioning and it was HOT!!! I had to leave - I was starting to feel ill from the heat.
After leaving Chester I went over to Water Wheel Quilt shop. LOVE that store!! Back room has clearance fabric for $5.99/yd - I bought some patterns, fq's and yardage. They sell a lot of vibrant colors and more modern fabrics where as County Treasures is more traditional (they do have a lot of Moda though which I like). I honestly wish I had gone to Water Wheel first since it was air conditioned, they have a great dog (Gracie) and my fiance chilled on the front porch in an Adirondack chair while I shopped (he loves dogs so he was happy to "play" with the dog while I shopped). Their motto is not your grandmas quilt shop and they mean it. I will definately be going back to WW again in the near future (I live outside Boston so it is a hike). I would say depedning on what you like for fabrics - base your spending on that. I would have spent all of my money at WW had I gone there first. Have fun! |
