I have some. Metal ones. And I know right where they are, because I was reorganizing things in the quilting room yesterday and ran across them. I bought them years ago because I was convinced that I had to have them for daily use. I think I used them for stems on an applique once. At least they don't take up much space, like some of the other things I just had to have.

I think it's what we call bias bars--used to make an applique stem. Often also used in celtic designs. You sew the bias strip wrong sides together, insert the bias bar so the seam allowance is on one side (not the edge) and press. When yo attach to the quilt the seam allowance is under the bias "stem" and invisible. Does this sound like what you are doing? They usually come in sets of various sizes, metal or a melt proof plastic
