There's a sailboat baby blanket pattern/kit at fatquartershop that I really like. It's from a magazine.

As for free patterns, alphabet blocks are nice.

Congrats!

Fatcat designs have some neat free applique patterns for baby quilts. As for designs, anything from a 9 patch, 4 patch or rail fence would be pefect and use the appliques in every other block. Congratulations on becoming a Grandma, I have three grandchildren and they are precious.

First, Congratulations! There is nothing better than being a grandma. I became a firsttime grandma last January and again in October. Two in one year! Yeah me! And, I get to babysit Lily starting in January. Maverick is in Florida.

Me too....First time Grandma in June!! I always look at the Grandchild Avatars and I can't wait to make mine the picture of the new baby!! I have started a diaper bag from the Moda Bake shop using a jelly roll. I have no idea of what quilt I will make either. Its always been so easy to pick baby quilts for others, but this one seems different. My daughter also won't know the sex of the baby until January. Do you know if the baby will be a boy or a girl?? That may help in your decision making.

Good Luck picking and post a picture when you decide!!

Congratulations. As someone who has just had a new grandson {Nov 22}to go with a 2 year old granddaughter, I know how you feel. I've made 3 quilts so far for her. The first was just a rather plain one that was the parents' idea. Then I made my version of "I spy", with alphabet fabric, cut into blocks using two of each letter. Then I made a simple one using a Sesame Street babies fabric, here again just squares. For the backing, instead of just one piece of fabric, I used several large pieces that were number, letter, animal, children etc. She liked that side as well. As an added thing, I make her a little tote, she loves that.

Friendship Star is one of my favorites but my most recent was a D9P and that was fun, too.
