Goo Gone to the rescue

3 Attachment(s)
I'm cutting circles out of old jeans using the Olfa circle cutter. One video I watched said to use basting spray on the cutting mat to keep the denim from bunching up. My mat was all sticky and the residue wouldn't wash off. I tried using Goo Gone and it worked! I still need to clean it more but I have a lot more circles to cut. I'm going to buy a new mat anyway when Joanns has then 50% off.

That is great. I like getting the Omnigrid mats that are thicker and wear better but they are only online at JAF.

Goo Gone is my friend ! I often find uses for it and here's another.

wow, those circles are huge! i should have known there was an ez tool to cut circles...oh well, i'm using pinking shears to defray the fraying...LOL that's good to know that googone will remove the fuzzies, though.....

Is your blade getting dull? Sometimes I have to work really hard when blade is getting dull and then I get gouges in my mat.

I found something I like better then Goo Gone. UnDu. It doesn't leave any film or strong smell. It is what pros use to remove old photos that are stuck together or stuck to glass frames. It's safe and works and evaporates. I buy it at WalMart in the craft section.

I have both. and like them both. DH uses also.

Pure Citrus Air Freshener Orange<!--5.08.0 --> works better than anything that I have ever used and it smells good also. It removes anything and everything sticky

I was using my rotating mat on the cutting 4 directions for the disappearing hourglass. 1st I sprayed the fabric..........bad move. Then I decided to spray the mat.............another bad move for me. Finally I sprayed the ruler I was using and that worked for me. I used "505" as that's what I had on hand. I took the ruler to the sink to wash off the sticky spray with no problems.

Do you like your olfa cirlcle cutter? I was thinking about putting it on my Wish list for Christmas. Your denim circle looks great!

Sewnoma 08-21-2015 05:47 AM

That is a really nice looking circle! I didn't think the circle cutter would work that well on fabric, but looks like it does a great job!

Reckon UnDo or GooGone would remove sticky stuff (that suppose to hold down a rug) that's left off floor?
HELP! Hardwood floor....

If you're shopping for a new mat at Joann's I love my new 24 x 36 Fiskars with a light and dark side, the squares in the middle 2" to 12". Had no idea how happy a new cutting mat could make me

Good info. Thanks.

I cut all my denim circles by tracing a template and cutting them with scissors cuz I was too cheap to buy the circle cutter. Bad move on my part.
My cutting mat is in bad shape and it is on my list of new notions when I'm finished with my organizing.

Thanks for the great tip for using Goo Gone on your cutting mat. I've used it for other things and it's worked well, well worth the price. Can't wait to see your quilt.

Me too on the UnDu, I had never heard of it, but sure can use it when I overspray basting a quilt on the patio table. thanx for the tip

I like it so far. I have a lot more circles to cut. It cuts perfect circles.

I did buy a new cutting mat at Joanns yesterday with the 60% off coupon. That coupon is good til tomorrow.

I've used Imperial cleaner on hardwoods--strips off the gunk but leaves the finish. Its used in dry cleaning and comes in a metal can and you may have to look at a hardware store for it.
