Hi and welcome from central Wisconsin. I have a mid range Viking that I got slightly used from a very reputable dealer. It was a great price, too. It sews like a dream and feeds the fabric very well. But I do always use a 1/4" foot when I'm piecing.

I have a Pfaff, I love my machine, but it has eaten my fabric before. Not sure what I did wrong although now I use a spider to feed in my first piece of fabric when piecing and haven't had that problem since. In case you don't know what a spider is...it is a scrap piece of fabric you put right under the pressure foot and start sewing from there and end with it also. It would be nice not to have to do that step but well I love my machine! :-D
