Good find at a commuity wide yard sale

I love when a whole neighborhood has a sale, lol. You never know what you will find. Of course, my dh does wonder about some of the things I pick up, until I explain what they are used for.

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d1...s/IMGP2566.jpg This is not coming inside until I can strip the cover and batting off and replace it. It is made of iron.

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d1...s/IMGP2556.jpg This one just needs to have the cover thrown in the washer, and I will put on new padding.

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d1...s/IMGP2548.jpg And there was NO WAY I was passing this up....now, if I just had a manual to tell me how it works, lol. It does run.

I've seen a similar machine on this forum but tried to quickly search for you, and didn't find it. If you took the time you might find the original posting & they might be able to suggest a place to download a manual.

so, ok..........its pretty and green........but what is it?

I know they didn't have the manual, and I bought it at a huge community sale. If they ever found it, we would not be able to find each other. I know that there are a couple others on the board who have this machine, if they see it, maybe they have a manual. It is in line to be cleaned up right after another little Japanese model. This is a Swiss made machine, btw, and probably really well made. It had nice accessories with it. I love that the carrying case folds down into a sewing table.

It's an ELNA grasshopper, 1939 or 1940, Swiss made, the case folds out to a sewing table. The accessory box clamps right onto the machine. It is really a nice machine, and probably their version of the featherweight. I could not resist buying it when I saw it sitting there. The cords are all in great shape.

Laugh if you like, but just looking at the little thing makes me smile, lol.

I know he thought I was crazy when I handed him the ironing boards. I paid $1 for the small one, $3 for the big one. I told him what they were for, and what it would cost me to buy one elsewhere, and imagine the shipping on an iron one. I did look up the small ones before, and they wanted $15 and shipping.

I have the same machine............

I found mine at a second hand store for about $20. Took me a few minutes on how to attach machine with case for extended table for sewing. Still looking manual too.

I've never seen the little Elna before - didn't realize it was a sewing machine at first. Neat!!

Here it is, out of the case. Now tell me, is that not adorable, lol? I am thinking of putting it under the tree at Christmas, along with some other goodies I bought.

What kind of attachments did you get with yours?

The Elna "Grasshopper" is in the top 10 collector's Must have machines!
They do have issues, but if you do the maintenance on it yourself you should be ok!
Search ebay for Elna Grasshopper, you should find plenty of manuals!

Good for you!
