Good Muslin?
How do you tell if muslin is good quality?
I bought some inexpensive muslin and it's beginning to look scruffy already. How do you tell what's good and what isn't? Christy |
I tell by the feel of it. The one I buy at joanns feels silky and soft, and even after I wash it it feels even softer, nice muslin will usually cost a little more as well

I love the premium muslin, 200 thread count. It has a fine weave and feel really nice. It handles well, don't wrinkle as badly as the cheap muslin. I shop around and buy when on sale. There is a place on ebay that sells Southern Belle for $3.50/yd. and sells in different precut sizes (I bought the 9 yd cut). Other brands I've used include Legacy, Kona Premium (by Kaufman). I've been pleased with them all.

I use Legacy most of the time. Get it at Joann's & use a coupon. Great quality.

I like the Legacy from JoAnn's. Usually wait until it's on sale or have a 1/2 coupon and try to get a full bolt, the 90" width.

I think muslin is one of the items where that old saying comes into play. "You get what you pay for"
If you get it cheap, then cheap is what you get. The good Quality muslin costs a little more and is worth it. I get mine from Keepsake Quilting, a Quilt Shop I trust. Have never bought anything from them that was not the best quality. |

I like Moda's. they have both white & natural color.

Thanks everyone. I wish I had known this. I just assumed that if JoAnn's had it prominently displayed with the calico it would be worth using. I put together a twin-size nine patch quilt and find that, after quilting half of it by hand, it's already too ratty to ever use. I am so upset - a complete waste of money and a LOT of time.
