Hi, I want a serger and have been thinking about it for over a year but have never used one b4.

I have the opportunity to buy a 7-8 yo Husqvarna Viking 910 serger for $250. Owner has all the accessories and instructional video and says it was only used to sew seams (is that like only driving a car to church on Sundays? ;-)

So is this a good price? I found one on ebay for $355 current bid with $52 for shipping. No idea how much these cost new.

You might want to check http://www.patternreview.com for reviews of this serger model. The reviews often include price paid (and year, etc.). For the older reviews you need to create a login, but it is free. Choose the category "sm/serger", put in Viking, and then scan the reviews for this particular model.

I've been wordering if I'd like to have one, too and tried to read the reviews. One thing I noted is that they are supposed to be difficult to thread and how some models hae something that sucks the thread into the correct path. Reviewers thought this was very helpful.

Would this be a buy or not buy item for anyone?

After a couple of years, I finally learned how to thread mine but it's still a pain...the models that thread themselves are pretty pricey but if you can afford it--it's worth it.

I did get it! Excellent condition, and gratefully came with instruction videos. Have not tried it yet, kinda afraid to. But did find 6 free videos online on sergers with Sewing with Nancy that I plan on watching on a quiet day.

thanks
