This is the cube unit. I would get two and DH would put wheels on them and a piece under the table top to make the height 35". The depth of the units is over 15", so they are nice size cubicles. A good size might be 36"by 48" that will fit a mat and I can move it around. Just thinking out loud here. May have to tape it out to see the size.

I did something similar but with the storage cubes from Michaels. I made a large base with wheels to put them on and then put the top over them. I love it.

Here's an older pic-this is before I painted the base.

I have a 30" X 60" cutting table which I manage to fill up with so much stuff that I end up with about a 12 X 12" cutting area. Really need to learn to put things away as I use them

Measure the space you have available. My mat is 24x36 and I have a 3x6 table. But sometimes I use the kitchen table. My sister bought a cutting mat and had it attached to a piece of plywood with carpet tape. That way she can put both away and store upright. best thing is to measure the space you have. Your sewing room is about the same size as mine. I have one sewing machine on one end. The other end I cut on.

I use the kitchen counter for cutting, but then I have a very understanding DH and no young people who might need to eat at it! :D IF I had room for a cutting table, I would like it to be large enough so that there would be at least 2" around my cutting mat... and also have a spot to put hooks on sides to hang rulers that wouldn't stick out & nab me.

I really like our kitchen table. DH made it. Will never get rid of it because it's perfect size for cutting and just working on it. Great catch-all! Hate that part!

Hi Gale,
Love your table. I have seen similar tables on Pinterest but those were made with Ikea 8 cube units. We don't have an Ikea store here and I only have an 8'x10' room.
Around 36"x48" table top may work, but will tape it out on the rug and see what I think.
I just wondered what was the smallest size I could use and still get the job done.

It seems people use all different sizes and it depends on what space is available.

Perhaps a fold down table, similar in style to a Murphy bed, would work well for you. I think you would need about 20 - 30 inches wide and perhaps the same long, have a leg attached to the end to support it while you're cutting. You could even use the space below it when it is 'down' for other storage.

If you made or purchased a nice ironing pad, you could also use the surface for pressing your fabric and quilts.

A great idea Cathy VV
