"The Goodbye Quilt"
 I just finished reading the book "The Goodbye Quilt" by Susan Wiggs.
While it's not an earth shattering block buster, it's SUCH a charming book centered around a handmade quilt, a road trip and a mother daughter relationship. I could sure relate to the emotions in the book given I became an "empty nester" about 8 years ago when my daughter moved out to go to college. I know I've really enjoyed a book when I feel sorry I reached the end. I miss the characters and storyline. I felt like I was in the back seat of the car with them....lol It's an easy read....and I would think a LOT of the women in here might be able relate to it. You could probably read it in a weekend, but I read it on my lunch breaks while at work. ♥ |
Thanks for the tip. I'll check out the book.
I'll check it out. Thanks for the tip
I will also look for it. Thanks.

:) I think women will like it!
I haven't read this yet, but have enjoyed others she has written. Thanks for tip.
Sounds like a good book. Thank you for the info.
Sounds very interesting. I will check it out. Thanks!
I enjoyed it also :)))
Did this book just come out? I read alot of Susan Wiggs books and I have not seen that one. I enjoy all her books and would like to read that one. Where did you buy it?
I will check this one out too though I suspect it may bring tears... I've missed my daughter so much while she is away at college in Southern California!
Oh good! Another author who features quilts.
I have read the book and could identify with the characters, too. I really enjoyed it. My only child left home in 1987 to go to college, then moved to Omaha (over 500 miles away) and has been there 16 years.
Thanks! Always looking for another good book to read with a quilt connection.
Thanks. I can relate to the characters in books also. I feel like they are family sometimes, :) And sometimes so happy they aren't! I'm going to look for this book.
I read it, but might go to the library and check it out again.
I have read it and I loved it. It is a quick read.
Thanks for the tip. My only daughter is trying to get into a PHD program in Salt Lake City so hopefully she will be moving from Montana soon so I will be an empty nester. (I mean hopefully she will get in not that I want her to leave us) She lived at home most of college since we only live about 10 mile from campus (and we would not afford the dorms except the first year) This sound like a good book to fill some of the time.
Thanks for the tip. I will read the book also.
I have read this book and found it very interesting. Some of the items she was using to make the quilt really surprised me. You'll have to read the book to find out what I'm talking about. I enjoy any book that has a quilting theme.
Off to my library website.......
There is an audio book as well, I listened to it as I was sewing. good book! Check the library.
Another quilt series books available is by Marie Bostwick-she has written several in a series, and her new one comes out in April-very good reading of a bunch of women who own and teach at the Cobblestone quilt store-Good reading-reader won't be let down by her writing like Jennifer Chiaverrini books-this author continues where she left off and don't jump ahead 25 years like Jennifer did in her last book. I will check out the Susan Wiggs book next time I got to Barnes & Noble-thanks
I enjoyed Marie Bostwick's more than Susan Wiggs but both authors can be entertaining IMHO
Thanks! Always looking for a good book to read.
Thanks for the recommendation, I like to listen to audio books while I sew, especially stories involving quilting. Have you read any of Jennifer Chiaverini? I really liked her "Lost Quilter" about a slave women making a quilt so she wouldn't forget how she made it to the North.
Susan Wiggs is a great writer! I have read most of her books and will have to get this one...thanks!
I am always delighted to find books with a sewing /quilting theme! I feel so fortunate to have more and more authors beginning to write about this fabulous subject! Thank you for the recommendation I will check it out
Thanks - I'll check it out,
Thanks for the heads up! Sounds like it is really nice.
Thanks for suggesting this book. Susan Wiggs is one of my favorite authors.
Sorry...wild weekend..just peeked in.
The book was a Christmas gift from my neighbor. I would guess she got it at Costco over the holidays. Here's a link to my favorite online used book store. I see one there for .75 cents...lol Such a deal! Half.com used books - http://search.half.ebay.com/the-good...em1446Q2el2686 Half.com is like ebay without the auction hassle. You see something (make sure the seller has a high rating), then you buy it outright. My house burned up 9 years ago, and I replace a majority of my CD's, and books from half.com for about 1/4 the price of buying them new. I'm not affiliated with them in any way. I've never been burned there once, but I don't buy from anyone then less then 100 sales, and 98% positive feed back. |

Thanks for the recommendation back. I just got a copy of "Lost Quilter" off of half.com for $1.25 (not counting shipping). Sounds good! Maybe we should start a book club in here....LOL At the very least suggest good books to each other. I RARELY read fiction, but I'm so glad I read this book. The book I finished just before "GB quilt" was North by Northwestern. It's about Capt'n Sig Hansen from Deadliest Catch TV show. His family has been fishing/crabbing in and around the Bering Sea for generations. They are from Seattle, WA...it was a good book too. Talk about TOUGH GUYS!! Hmmmmmmmmmmmm............ |
I also enjoyed this book so very much! Thank you for posting this so others of us can enjoy it as well! I wouldn't have thought of posting it. Way to go!
Thanks for letting me know about another author to check out and I look forward to reading her books.
going to see if our library has it. love to read books like that
