Recently, (I don't remember what thread) I read that someone goes to GW and buys Hawaiian print shirts to use for quilting fabric. I was shopping today and decided to see what I could find. I bought 3 shirts at GW! But, I'm afraid I won't get much fabric out of them..... Hubby promptly claimed them as his when I brought them home LOL

Bummer!!! LOL

oh my, I guess you need to hide them from your hubby in the future

Ok, but please note, some Hawaiian shirts are very valuable if they have the right label. So a good find at the GW could be a really great find too.

I say chop them up in the car the next time lol

All fabric stash stays in the trunk until no one home, then sneak in the beautiful fabric, or GW finds, add them to your existing stash, and there you have an instant stash builder. If hubby notices the stash getting larger blame it on the fabric fairies.

At least cut the collar off before you bring them into the house. :-)

I like Hawaiian shirts on men, so the stash would get second choice if there was a man around here. JoAnn's has some gorgeous tropical cottons that sewed up nicely in the apparel section. They were $6.99, but with a half off sale, were only $3.50 a yard.

They would be safe at my house. My husband would not put one on. LOL

William wears Hawaiian shirts almost exclusively...and I make them for him. He's particularly fond of the Alexander Henry girls...I have 3 or 4 pieces of fabric that I need to get sewn up for him!! (Then I get the scraps!! :) )

My husband also wear mostly Hawaiian shirts. He has somewhere between 60 and 80 last count, and they all have to be ironed. When they get too small I snag them and put them in my closet so I can use them for a quilt someday. I find them at yard sales and of course buy them new as well. I think they will make a beautiful quilt or quilts some day.

ha ha ha!!! cute!
|
I really didn't feel bad. They are nice shirts and deserve to be worn. I did get some fabric too! :)

My husband only wears Tommy Bahama. I can't wait until the day I can make a quilt from them.
|
 Next time cut them up before showing them to hubby and DON'T bring him with you!

Well at least you got some fabric LOL....I found two beautiful April Cornell womens's dresses at Salvation Army a few months ago. Both beautiful off-white flowing, lacy dresses...I paid $3.99 (1/2 price sale) for one of them and $6.99 for the other. I could not pass them up even if the only one that ever wears them is my sewing dummy (form)..
Her special occasion dresses are always over $100 new |
My SIL loves Hawaiian shirts. I found one with Santa and palm trees in his size. Told him if he didn't like it I could use it for a quilt. He loves it.

LOL!

Aren't a lot of them rayon or blends? Do they cut up and sew well? I love the way they look but I'm scared of making a mess with non-cottons!
