I have been making quilts for grandchildren and I have put the extra blocks in a bag with their name on it. When they get the quilt I tell them if it gets messed up bring it to me and I will repair it. This way I do not have to save any scraps for possible repairs. I can use them for applique. I came up with this idea years ago when my Mother made my daughter a Sun Bonnet Sue with hand Black blanket stitching. My daughters dog tore a whole in it and we had to just patch it because we had not saved anything. Gail

How about a cover for your sewing machine? And then a bag for loose threads, another for sewing notions, etc.
There are some cute patterns out there for "pocket baskets" you hang from a rod for extra storage in a kid/sewing room that would look great done with various size blocks, too. |

Add sashings to them, and then trim them all to the same size. Since they are scrappy/different sizes, they won't all be set like in a traditional quilt, but being off set will add to the scrappy charm of the quilt. |
You could make candle mats, pot holders, coasters.
