Goop removes marker stains
 

In an insane moment of inspiration, I used a washable marker (the Crayola kind) to mark quilting lines thinking "washable." No surprise to some of you, they aren't completely washable and left a residual trace of color. Following my lead, my roommate also tried one, but she didn't wash hers out for YEARS, thinking it wasn't going to come out anyway. Well, online searching suggested Go Jo, or Goop, the wonderful hand cleaner for mechanics. IT WORKED! So, for those of you who've used marking tools that didn't wash out, try GOOP. Good luck!

Thanks! I have tried Goop on other things, but not fabric. A friend told me she used the Gojo on bad grease and oil stains on hubby's work clothes(even after washing and drying), and it did the job! Gonna try both. My DD has one of my Mother's quilts that was marked with pencil on border and has never come out. Might be worth a try.

I had read that others used the washable markers on their quilts so looked at the label when I was at the store the other day - it states something to the order that marks may leave a shadow or line. Guess one should all try making a sample and washing it to see if it really comes out. One would probably have to do this with each quilt made. It's nice to know you found a solution to your problem!

A product called Sew Clean does wonders in removing stains like ball point ink, pencil marks and so on. It is available in some quilt stores and online. It has come to my rescue a number of times.

Really! Gosh. Good to know. I ended up doing applique to cover a mark! This would have been easier and quicker haha
