Got To Crow
Morning all, I just have to brag a little bit. I have been barely quilting because I've been so overwhelmed with projects. Yesterday I finally took myself in hand and started clearing off the table. Hemmed two pairs of jeans first. Why two? Because someone needs to go on a diet and her usual ones are feeling a little snug. The diet starts this week too.
Next I took the three projects I'd started from a guild class and finished the original quilt, which needed binding machine sewed on. Worked on hand sewing last night and it's almost done. Then I used up all the leftover blocks and scraps and finished the two charity quilts (crib size). These were works in process, but needed sashing, borders etc. I'm longarming them today. The whole pile is significantly reduced. Whew! Next on the agenda is a table topper (think quilted fit to size table cloth) for my sister's motor home. Individual placemats are awkward, esp when you need to add a hotpot square too. Pattern and fabric is all ready to go. I'm going to add elastic strips on four corners like you find on bottom sheet so it stays in place. Hope this works like we envision it. I can't believe how just getting those easy little projects out of the way brightened my mood. Off to sew. Yeah! |
Sometimes it's alright to crow! Congrats on finishing some UFO's. I find that setting a goal and getting started gives you momentum to keep going..
Hooray for you! Definite cause for celebrating.
Definitely you deserve credit and kudos for not letting things pile up any longer. Good for you! It feels good to get it all organized and dealt with, doesn't it?
And once you're on a roll, you don't dare stop. So full steam ahead! You go girl!
Good for you, it should inspire the rest of us.
Great start to the new year.
I love the idea for your sister's RV table. Do you mind if I steal it? My RV' table is too small for 4 place mats, although I do have some made out of shelf liner, which allows things to stay put on the road. I know about those tight pants. My eating is ok now, but I need to get off my duff and start moving. |
I gathered up all my UFO and put them in bags with instructions on each one. I put in the donation box at Salvation Army and promptly forgot what was in it. It feels good to be free to start again. LOL Most were class and workshop projects that were fun to learn a new pattern. I don't feel guilty at all to get rid of my unfinished work. I know someone will be happy to find them at a bargain price.
Sounds like you're off to a great start for the new year. Congratulations!!!!!!!!
I love your idea on the RV table! Congrats on getting things done!
ha, ha. I know how you feel. My neighbor told me she must go on a quick trip and needed some black pants hemmed. So of course I said yes. My own pants have been sitting months in my sewing room, waiting. But i got her pants done and then my own. So hopefully I'm off to a good start too. I've not done much for a year!
Keep up the good work. I was just getting back at sewing myself (after the holidays) when I came down with a terrible cold. Feeling better but just down feel like even going in my sewing room. I'm more than half way through piecing a small quilt top so I need to take your advice and just make myself.
It is amazing how good it feels to complete some projects---big or small!!
Good for you! I should be so inspired, but I can't seem to find my sewing mojo this week!
Congrats on getting the UFOs done.
Good for you! You'really quite inspiring to some of us!
You go girl. You've earned the right to crow. Congratulations!
ain't it great to accomplish just [some] things...crow on...
It sounds like you are on a roll with finishing up your UFOs. I have 3 that need to be finished & those are on the top of my list when I retire at the end of this month.
Great start for year! Wish I could crow with you, but still a little swamped!
Great work. I always feel like that this time of year, but find that,if like you,I start on the smallest, easiest tasks there's a great sense of accomplishment which then helps me move on to the bigger or more difficult tasks.
What a great start... I know I always feel better when I take a day to just clean up and put away "stuff" from (usually many) previous projects.
I have started cleaning out a closet this month that has been ignored for over a decade. I'm forcing myself to do this for 30 minutes once a week. It's amazing how much more room I have now. I found two pairs of pants that I had started hemming and never finished. Once I did that, I had two new pairs of pants. I must admit that I would rather buy new pants that actually fit me rather than hemming... but where would one find those? |
I have a complete tote of UFO's that need completing....one of these days!!
Good for you!!!!!!!!!
Congrats on your accomplishments... it feels good to finish up a few projects and it sounds like you have a few more in the works. Keep up the momentum....
This is why I enjoy patching jeans. I don't mind doing it, and it takes INCHES off my current sewing pile!:D
It's amazing that something that weighs so little feels so heavy on your back. And what a relief to get all of the little junks done. I've been wanting to replace a button on a shirt for months - so I move it from one pile to another. Finally bit the bullet and sewed on the button. I feel lighter already!
Congratulations on lightening your load! |
:) congrats and good for you -- I belong to a bee that keeps coming up with projects, big and small, for us, since we have several that I call overachievers, while I still have UFOs that I should work on, mainly an Irish Mist in a box and a Baltimore Album with the final bordered to be appliqued and maybe some others too -- I am really a one project at a time type, but have accepted that there will be UFOs!!--I manage to keep up with most of the bee projects, a BOM with big blocks and themed blocks for various seasons and a row quilt or two, and my own UFOs fall by the way!!

Have spent the last two days cleaning off my quilting table, which is nine feet square. I feel so much better. Have to start a quilt for our church raffle and now I feel more like getting at it. Also found a couple of missing rulers, a measuring tape, and a box of 2.5 by 4.5 quilt pieces. This snow storm we have been having in western NY is keeping me housebound, but I guess it is a blessing in disguise.
Congratulations on finishing those UFO's. I'm in the middle of making an applique and pieced baby block; you'd think that having made one in a full size quilt for our DGD, that I wouldn't make another one, but I am. This one, however, is a much smaller quilt and I'm eliminating the dragonflies, only leaving flowers, hearts, pinwheel blocks and last but not least, 2 variations of applique butterflies. I know, glutton for punishment, however, this is for the DGD of a dear friend, and we have been friends since before her son was born, then Alyssa came along; she's a real sweetheart, so I feel I should make her a special quilt. Besides, I had the strips all ready sewn and ready for the appliques, plus the squares were cut for the pinwheel blocks, so about half the work is already done.
Sounds like you got alot accomplished. Good job and I know what you mean about feeling good about getting some things done. Right now, I am sort of stuck with a quilt I have on my LA and fixing my mystery BOM, so I sat down and finally made myself a pincushion thread catcher so I would at least have my Jan project done for a 12-4-12 challenge I am doing with one of my quilt guilds.
Can you pat yourself on the back while crowing at the same time? Reward = Gold stars on the fridge.
Good for You!!! It always feels good to get some things completely done and out of the way.
Your year has started off very productively. I know that great feeling when you get those items off your mental checklist. If only I could keep that going all year long. You might be better at that than me!
Good for you! You've inspired us with the progress you've made. Finishing little projects is like paying off credit cards , starting with the one with the lowest balance. Once it's paid off, the relief is its own reward and definitely motivates you to pay off the next.
