My DH took me for a ride this morning that ended up at a quilt shop I never visited before about 70 miles away. He said to pick out 12 FQs and that will be your roses. I couldn't believe it! I guess you know He's getting special treatment for that!! Much better than roses that would just wilt in time. He is difinately a 'keeper'!

Marcia 02-14-2009 03:53 PM

Definitely a keeper!!

crispyquilts 02-14-2009 04:43 PM

Oh you lucky lady!!!! When I saw the title of this thread I told my DH what you were given. He said "But I don't know what you would like!!! That's not fair". LOL.

sharon b 02-14-2009 04:45 PM

You are certainly lucky to have such a thoughtful husband. What a wonderful gift. Enjoy, enjoy!! :D :D :D

dojo36 02-14-2009 05:17 PM

well, since i don't have a husband or a boy friend, i went on ebay and bought 53 FQ's for $48.00 (including shipping) i'll post a pic when i get them. can't wait.

pocoellie 02-14-2009 05:19 PM

What a great guy!!!

zennia 02-14-2009 05:43 PM

My husband does'nt have a clue what day it is so I went ahead and ordered me a pattern from him.

Harmony 02-14-2009 06:33 PM

Now, there's a man who knows and understands his woman!

littlehud 02-14-2009 06:42 PM

Oh, he did good. Much better than roses. The FQs will live forever in a quilt.

barnbum 02-14-2009 06:56 PM

Awesome!!

peaceandjoy 02-15-2009 04:06 AM

What a wonderful gift! He not only knows what you like, found a quilt shop so you could have the pleasure of looking and took you instead of giving you a gift certificate... Which means he knew he'd have to wait while you shopped, a gift in itself. The best valentine's gift I've heard about!

peaceandjoy 02-15-2009 04:08 AM

Hijack: Hi, Karla! Enjoy your week off. Hope you get lots of time to do whatever you want to do, and don't have too much you HAVE to do that'll take time from the things you enjoy.

quiltwoman 02-15-2009 04:25 AM

Now THAT'S true love!

What did you pick??

BarbS 02-15-2009 05:21 AM

That is sooo thoughtful......and I agree much better than roses!

Bevanger 02-15-2009 07:45 AM

you gals are lucky. I got nothing.... zilch. Not even a happy V. day... Oh well, my special day was spent moving

sewjoyce 02-15-2009 09:04 AM

What a thoughtful husband -- yep, definitely a keeper!!!

Kara 02-15-2009 09:43 AM

AAAHHH!!! That's great!! Love that. Wish my hubby though of that. I got nothin'.
I'll have to share this idea for the future.

Brenda Retzlaff 02-15-2009 02:57 PM

Lucky lady!!!!!! I'll take fabric of any kind over roses any day. :D

Mousie 02-15-2009 03:57 PM

Bev, Kara,....not alone. My hubby has never celebrated Valentines Day. As a kid they were too poor (5 children) to buy cards to exchange at school, so it's just another day to him.
Helped grandbaby make him a card and he told me he would have bought me one but thought v. day was on a Sunday.
I told him that was alright. What else am I gonna tell a man that just let me order a new sewing machine?:D
hugs to you both, and a belated Happy Valentines Day! :)

CindyBee 02-15-2009 04:15 PM

That is the sweetest thing I could imagine! A nice roadtrip, new quilt store experience and 12 special fat quarters! Lucky girl! How could you ever top that?

sandpat 02-15-2009 04:48 PM

He is definetly a keeper!!! You did tell him that lots of women on here are quite a bit jealous

I was lucky to get a card....mine did keep asking me if I wanted chocolate...(just b/c he wanted to buy some and then eat it  ..he knows I always share...well...except that 1 time I stabbed him with a fork when he tried to snitch a bite of my cake..  )

Mousie 02-15-2009 04:50 PM

i got so busy replying that I forgot to congratulate you on your fat quarters!!! I know it's kind of hard for men to figure out what would mean something to a woman, but your hubby certainly took the time and effort to figure it out. Yes, I would say special treatment is deserved. :D

mrs. fitz 02-16-2009 05:58 AM

Hello Janstar -

he definitely deserves the "Quilter's Hero" tee shirt -- have you seen it? I got one for my husband Jack several years ago in Lancaster PA as a TY for his patience going to quilt shops and, when his mobility was better, big shows and actually showing interest in what he was seeing! Your husband deserves one from all of us readers! Did you know about the quilt shop and mention it, or did he even find that on his own? As someone said before me, he's a keeper.

rebeerose 02-21-2009 09:09 AM

I got pink roses for V- day but since my b-day was this next week my DH but me a quilt book called " Link back to the 30's". I can't wait to try out some of the 1930's patterns in it, since I like heirloom quilts. That is some b-day gift, I wouldn't trade my DH for nothing. But have to wait till the book comes in the mail. DH ordered it online, which he never does!

Belinda 02-21-2009 09:23 AM

How wonderful! He was doing what he knew you would REALLY love and what would mean the most to YOU. A very special day to remember. Wow, I've wish all men were like that.

Quiltntime 02-21-2009 09:26 AM

He certainly knows what makes you happy.

rebeerose 02-21-2009 09:35 AM

Yea, I have to say my DH is special! He even goes shopping to the quilt shops with me and HELPS pick out fabric for quilts I have to make. He is getting pretty good at getting the right fabric and color too. And he doesn't complain that much! Sometimes I think he is an alien, but then realize No he just an angel instead.

Joan 02-21-2009 09:54 AM

What a thoughtful husband, he definitely scored points for that in my book. He is a keeper.......

lgeorge 02-21-2009 12:01 PM

How sweet, the closiest my husband gets to fabric for me is when he has to go to the doctor he sits in the car while I run into Joanne's Fabric. To me this is sweet too.

Sharon M 02-21-2009 12:25 PM

what a wonderful husband! Not only did he give you something that was lasting he took you to pick them out yourself and waited for you to do so. I bet that made you feel really special.
My sweet husband did extra good this year also. I recycle everything and I like an occasional glass of wine. So when the bottle is empty I soak the label off and put it the paper recycle and the bottle goes in the glass recycle. When I wasn't at home he found the label in the paper recycle and took it with him and bought me 3 bottles of the wine. Also my Beta fish died a week before valentines (4 years old) and he bought me another one of them. When I got up Valentines morning the 3 bottles of wine were on the kitchen counter (next to the coffee pot)with a card proped in front of them and when I picked the card up I saw the fish in it's little container behind the card. I was in shock.. :D and I told him that too. He said well you better sit down for the next part. He had run the water the day before for the fish so it would be all ready for me to fix the fish up in his new home. We have a water softner and you have to run the regular water for the fish from a bypass faucett and you only get about 1/2 gal at a time. I have never know him to think things out this far. What a wonderful surprise for me :!:   :D

sewin'sam 02-21-2009 02:23 PM

I hate to burst your bubble but....I went for a haircut & my DH always goes with me. Wanted to stop in at the quilt shop across the street to look at their "sale" fabric. Walked out with a Quattro 6000D instead! All with his blessings! he said "as long as you're happy. It's only money!!! Top that! WOW! I've kept him for 23 years & certainly not letting go now!!!  (In case you don't know, It's Brother's latest & greatest embroidery/sewing/craft/quilting machine!) I hate to brag but I'm so excited, I had to tell! I'm almost 70 yrs old. & none of my daughters sew. One son does, though, maybe he'll get it when I die??? haha!

Janstar 02-21-2009 07:08 PM

Good for you Sharon and Sam! You also have 'keepers'. They do suprise us every so often.

kd124 02-22-2009 01:59 PM

What a wonderful gift. Sounds like there were some other great gifts out there.

jojo47 02-23-2009 08:19 AM

I didn't get a card, but a verbal Happy Valentine's wish from my DH, which is OK, because he does other little things that speak volumes! For instance, he appologized for not getting me anything for Christmas (he really didn't purchase anything!), but I told him he had been giving me the BEST gift during close to three weeks of our coldest Minnesota weather by taking me to and coming to get me from work, which is a forty mile round trip! Yup, another keeper!

Well, you must be some special WIFE to get that kind of consideration! I'll have to show this one to my DH. If I knew how to "copy and paste" I'd send it to him. But then, tonight when he gets home from work, I'll just have to SHOW it to him. Good for you. And good for your DH.

I had pretty special treatment for V. Day. He drove a little further than usual for dinner. We went to one of my favorite night-time restaurants and had the best Grilled Tilapia with lump crabmeat and pecans.
