Got a name for your machine?
If so please share with me. I got a Janome 6600 today and 'she' needs a name. I have no idea what to call 'her'.
Thanks for the suggestions. LaQuita |
My 6600's name is Janani! It means "mother", which is appropriate because she helps me birth so many projects.
I also have a pretty little Featherweight named Miss Anise. :) |
Use her for awhile and see if a name becomes apparent--maybe a link to the name of the first quilt you make on her?

My Slinger 401 Slant-O-Matic is Agnes after my deaf Grandmother. My Bernina is Bernice and you can probably guess why.

I have named a couple of my machines but not my Janome 6600. I have to get busy on that.
I have a Singer 66 treadle that I named "Smitty" after my mother-in-law. Her husband used to call her that because her maiden name was Smith. My husband told me she used to sit at her sewing machine and sew for his brothers and sisters. All 6 total. I also have a Featherweight which I call "Priscilla" because the machine is so Prissy looking. I love it! Good luck in finding a name for your precious machine. |
Give her time to adjust to her new surroundings, she will let you know her name, you will know it when you hear it.
My featherweights have names as do my toy sewing machines, the latest being called Adele. My Janome 10000 is named Lightning (storm related). The husky 875Q is called various names not to be used in public. |

I've named only two of mine.
The Singer 401A is "Workhorse" because it has been such a close, faithful companion for so many years. My Featherweight is "Violet". Just a pretty name for a pretty girl. |
All of mine have the same name: Money Pit.
If I'm not buying fabric to feed them, I'm buying feet or other must haves they require. Let's not even mention when one has to go to the Doctor. |
I have many machines but only named 1 so far.I have the babylock quilters choice pro-straight stitch only and very fast-so I named it speedy. The rest have not been named-not sure why.

Just like ,nhweaver, said, give it a little time. Her personality will let you know what to name her. All my machines have names; Lizzie, my all time favorite, Rosie, Mable, I Love Lucy, Sweet Baby Jane, Bonnie, Pandora,my newest Brother, I never know what she is going to do and she never makes a beautiful stitch,we have a love/hate relationship! Good luck with your new machine. MAWLUV

I have only named my Featherweight. Her name is Quiltie because I only use her for piecing quilt tops. My Bernina is nameless.
|
My Bernina 930 is referred to as my "dependable friend" and my Bernina 820 is called "Big Momma"
|
My vintage Free Westinghouse is Stella. I wanted a name that went with her time period.
My Elna is Shelby, I don't know why - it just fit. I guess it makes me think of a strong-willed, outgoing woman figure or the sleek, fast Shelby Mustang. :) My Brother is Little Brother. |
All my machines have names. Afterall, they are my dear friends. I have Tilda, Silvie (15's), Opal & Esther (the twins 301's), then I have Mr. T (the treadle in a parlour cabinet) Big Mama, and babe (janome's) and Sweet Pea, my little toy machine. Oh, and my latest, Lucy (99). Yep, she needs a name. it will come to you.

After you have sewn on her for a while you will find a name will come to you!
