Granddaughter's panel quilt?

It is summer and my GD will be making a quilt from a panel for her mother. Where can I find design ideas? What do you think of pattern layout which would work for her? Thank you for your suggestions.

Need more info! Picture of panel in question would help too.

Mom-6 is right, a picture of the panel would help, but try putting a 2.5" border around the panel and then add a border of 4P, 9P or pinwheels (depending on the skill level of your GD). She can add as many pieced or solid borders as she wants to get to the size required.

Also, how old is your grand daughter, and has she sewn before?

First I would check out the manufacture's website of the panel. They always have sample patterns to encourage quilter's to purchase their fabric. Secondly, check Google out:

I would just add different borders. At least that is the way I deal with a panel. Usually looks quite good. (Could be I am a tid bit lazy too....:) )

Depending on what the panel is exactly you could do attic windows with it. She may need a little help from you with the mitered angles but aren't you sewing with her anyway? Of course that all depends on if she wants to cut the panel or leave it whole. I think it's awesome she is quilting!!! Wish my GD were close and wanted to learn to quilt!

I have done a couple of "panel quilts" and I had success using pinwheel blocks with them. She could use Jenny's (Missouri Star Quilt Company) video showing how to get four 1/2 square triangles out of a square block. I make mine smaller than the panel and then add sashing to make it fit the panel. Personally, I love pinwheels so that is what I do.
