I have been collecting "precious" and Cinderella or other Disney classic "girle" fabrics for my 3-yr. old granddaughter. When I visited her this weekind, I discovered that she is excited about Captain America, Magic Cars and Lightening McQueen. What should I do?

You can post on members buy/sell/ trade and see if anyone has the type you need and trade for the fabric you have.

I see a reversable quilt in your future. Do the princesses and girly side & the lightening McQueen, Cars side. best of both worlds

Great idea Ripped!

Make what she likes now, by the time you have it finished she will be into the Princesses! LOL

How creative!!!

She is three years old, don't fret over what she likes from day to day. Save the fretting when they are 13 and like nothing.

I like the reversible idea otherwise I would just do the girly one, she'll love it no matter what.

i would trade the fabric for something to suit her tastes.

not all girls are girly and waiting for her to become a girly girl might not happen.

encourage the athletic adventurous aspects of her personality instead of waiting for other traits to develop down the line.

Thanks. You hit it right on the nail. because she says, "I play soccer with my friends"--the benefits of daycare!!!!

You can mix in the girly theme and the Lightning McQueen and other stuff. You could do an "I spy" quilt with all of it mixed in. I threw "Mater" and "Curious George" on a quilt b/c my son likes both of them. He uses it every day at preschool and loves it. His quilt is not an award winner but definitely fun and he loves it.

What's an "I spy"?

An I Spy is a quilt with many squares fussy cut to show the design. Here's two that I have made for the grandkids. You can use whatever size block in whatever layout that suits you.

6 square in corner and 12 3 squares to finish the 12 block

6 square in the middle and the 3 1/2 squares around to make a 12 block

There you go, Grandma. The ideal solution.

I would make it using the style/characters she likes now rather than hoping she will change to prefer the Princess stuff. It would be like someone giving you a quilt in a color they know you don't prefer hoping you will grow to like it. She's only 3 but you should honor her preferences (my humble opinion).

If she changes, it's a good excuse to make another.
