grandmas flower garden quilt

Is anyone currently working on a grandmas flower garden quilt? I have so many quilts I want to start and currently been basting hexagons, I believe they are 1.5 size. Wondering about how many I would need and yardage? I am going to use some red, white, and blue fabric ive had laying around and hoping it would look ok. I would love to see if anyone has made one of these quilts for inspiration and design layout. Thanks

Thank you, it is pretty... I am using the English paper piecing technique, the way that one was completed on quilting as go confuses me lol. Havent got alot of those techniques down or havent tried.

I've been basting 1.5" hexagons out of my 1930's fabrics. I started out just wanting to learn the technique and make a wall hanging...so I'm just ad libbing and can't help you much with yardage requirements. A friend gave me a shoe box full of 2.5" squares of fabrics (not the 30's style) so I used some for practice and made her a large pincushion. Sewing all the hexes together was so much hand work but the pincushion is adorable. Of course, I forgot to take a photo before I gave it to her! I'll have to go visit her with camera in hand!

My hexes are 1-1/4" in 1930's reproduction prints. If you go to www.paperpieces.com you can click on to free patterns and get layout info along with the correct yardage needed for your quilt size. They also list the amount of hexes you'll need for your quilt size. It's really a great site. The best part is that you can order pre-cut hexes in just about any size you'd like. Hope this helped a bit.... have fun!

I am working on one now, I use 2.5 inch squares of fabric to fit my templates. I trace the template on the subscription cards stuck into magazines.
