Gray backing for baby quilts?
 

Hello! I have several baby quilts to make for both boy and girl. All are different patterns and colors. To minimize cost and wastage, I'd like to use the same fabric for all of them. I'm thinking of using a solid gray because it's neutral and lower contrast than a solid black or white.

Thoughts?

For baby quilts, I prefer some sort of variation in color. In my experience, baby quilts that are used tend to get dirty from being dragged around and/ ot babies are leaky - vomit, feces, and urine.

If the Same piece of fabric is compatible with all the quilt tops, I would use it.

However- some quilts are "around" for a long time. Would this fabric be how you want to be remembered?

Grey is very trendy and gender neutral. It's a great choice.

I agree. And it goes very well with either pastels or brights.

Hobby Lobby has a gray that works up looking like silver ! Great fabric .

maybe you could find a grey that has a bit of texture to it? or maybe even a bit of multicolored print?

Gray is the new neutral, very trendy right now. It is gender neutral, I have seen a lot of gray in children's clothing and also in adult clothing. I have a gray bedspread with embroidery on it. When I have company I gets a lot of compliments on it. Gray goes with everything.

I would stay away from a solid color so that stains aren't as noticeable. If a quilt is going to be so that both sides are seen, I try to use an attractive back. Wall hanging can be anything since it's not going to be seen. My thinking anyhow

Grey is a great neutral. I would choose a fabric with pattern, maybe a grey paisley or print. Solids show stains quicker and since they don't put coverings in with babies, they are often used as play mats.

Grey is not one of my colors of choice but it is trendy and new moms like it. I agree with the several comments suggesting a texture or grey on grey small print or geometric. Mostly I bet you just want it to be used and loved and brought back to you in shreds for repair because it was so well "loved".
