I'm in the same boat. I've only been acquiring a stash for about 5 years or so - mostly when I find a really good buy, but also when I see a fab that I've got to have. Some have specific projects in mind - some not.

This morning I went looking for something in my sewing room that I thought would be neat to FINALLY use on the landscape project I'm working on. 4 years ago at the IQS show in Chicago I bought a small bag of bits of green fabric embellishments - silks, fuzzies, ribbons - etc - and I wanted it NOW.

It wasn't in the first place I thought it would be so I checked the second place - a storage box under my sewing table. I could not believe how much stacked fabric I had to move to get the box out. I also found fabric I completely forgot I had. There was a time a few years ago when I could remember where I got each piece of fabric ... not any more.

My search was unsuccessful. No idea where this bag of bits has gone to.

The good news is that I cleaned and sorted the first place I looked for it (a small 2 shelf unit) and now all my books are sorted and properly shelved :)

A big project (when I'm done quilting the landscape) is to empty the closet completely and build shelves inside it so I can store fabric on boards standing up - then close the doors to keep dust and sun away.

So ... as of now ... I'm on a fabric diet.

That would explain my sewing room!

Oh! Thanks, I was wondering what was happening to my sewing room. Someone is coming in and stashing more and more fabric.

I have always said my fabric multiplies like rabbits!
i go into a shop and buy 2 pieces of fabric- take them home- cut them up and use them in a quilt- as i'm cleaning up= putting away for some reason i now have anywhere from 4-10 pieces of fabric (or more-some litters are huge!)
to put away---it's vicious! and i've been at if for 45 years---have not found any (birth control) that works ;)
every piece of fabric i purchase some how multiplies- just no control what so ever...

At least it makes for a good story!

And it is a story that bears sticking to. I've been making samplers and stash quilt tops for a few years -- and my 'see through' containers with lids that WERE about 3/4 full are now full and running over. And not because I've been buying fabric - it just seems to multiply.

You know this is something you bought twice ! Ask me how I know.

My girl fiend had her son bring six boxes down from the attic. She couldn't remember what was in them. You guessed it. ALL fabric. She said it was just like Christmas, mother's day and her birthday all rolled into one.

There were some real beauties in there and you wouldn't believe the price. There were also some really uglies. AND....there are still five boxes up there for next time.

I fell in love with your fabric fairy. She's the cutest I've ever seen. Do I have your permission to copy her and share with my ASG group? They love to do angels.
