tatavw01 01-11-2013 05:37 PM

i have one of those great guys, i had hand reconstruction surgery last week, i had a quilt done all put the binding and guess what he did today. along with cooking, keeping the house clean and taking care of me. 23 years later he's still the best...

memepat 01-11-2013 05:43 PM

Wow!!! What a sweetie.

Sunnie 01-11-2013 05:45 PM

Sounds like a keeper to me.

Jackie Spencer 01-11-2013 06:14 PM

Lucky ladies! Where do you find these guys? LOL

dunster 01-11-2013 07:26 PM

My DH would help if he could, but I don't think the binding would be up to my standards. Or anyone's standards. I'm not sure he's ever threaded a needle, or knows which end goes into the fabric first, LOL.

I got mine from the same place I guess! LOL

Wow, I don't think I would want to see the binding after my hubby got through with it LOL He has learned a lot of new things these last two years, but sewing is not one of them :)

kiffie2413 01-11-2013 10:49 PM

That's awesome! While I have an amazing hubby, I am not sure I would even want to see what binding would look like when he was finished...probably be bound with duct tape...maybe semi color coordinated...lol..

You gals are blessed with some wonderful husbands!

MaryLane 01-12-2013 02:49 AM

Hmmm....maybe I need to improve my husbands handwork skills.

No, he is great at helping at whatever I am doing. My quilting machine is in our unfinished basement. If I say, "I am going to load a quilt." he thinks he needs to sweep and mop the basement floor for me. Who am I to mess with that system?

ckcowl 01-12-2013 03:25 AM

mine stitches wonderful bindings, clips raggy quilts for me, trouble shoots my machines, chooses colors/fabrics, and is one of the lqs' favorite customers---those ladies just love to see him walk through the door!
my sons & nephew are fabulous quilters- and have taught many girlfriends over the years learn to make at least one quilt. guys are generally great at putting together fabric collections-they seem to have a real (eye) for it

DOTTYMO 01-12-2013 03:37 AM

I agree with Ckcowl that some men are great at putting colours together. When I first started quiting I took my 8 year old nephew wh was great at putting fabric patterns together as was his brother a few years after. My brother and myself are hopeless I have a colour problem with blue and grren when close together as he does. I wish I could find one of those hubbies....ah my wish for 2013 a ........

TexasSunshine 01-12-2013 06:56 AM

My DH helps me by loading a quilt on the LA, lining everything up and does maintain all my machines for me. He is not all that good at color and design or would not want to do binding but is so helpful and supports my habits. He likes to go to quilt shows and has taken me to the Houston Quilt Show, plus a lot of small local ones.

Dina 01-12-2013 10:03 AM

Pretty nifty husbands!! Hold on to them.

Dina

quilttiger 01-13-2013 04:06 AM

Gosh, there are some neat husbands out there....mine is one of them....he is a REAL treasure....He bought me my first sewing machine when we were engaged almost 50 years ago. After we got married, he made me this neat pressing board with two arms on it...one is for narrow sleeves or tubes while the other one is a bit wider. I was using it last night, and I thanked him for the upteenth:o time! He and his best friend finished off half of the basement so I could have a real woman's cave/studio. The other end is a TV/stereo area so we can be togehter. He is very supportive and a real enabler of my habit....his favorite phrase is "within reason" and he draws the line at learning how to quilt, but I sure don't mind. He is a real keeper!

psychonurse 01-13-2013 05:52 AM

Mine has applied the binding for me several times. One day I went to work and when I came home he had inserted the sleeves and sewed them on a girls dress I was making. he also cuts most of my quilt pieces for me.

Evelyn 01-13-2013 05:55 AM

What a sweetheart!

Scakes 01-13-2013 06:19 AM

Husbands can be so amazing! Mine doesn't sew very much but he is great with wood and metal which comes in handy too. Since he retired, he has found out he likes cooking which is a big :) from me.

Grannyh67 01-13-2013 06:54 AM

Well, my DH would do that if He could, poor Guy, He is not any good at sewing. I have tried to get Him to learn but He will have no part of it, lol...I guess He will stick to the wood working.

Caswews 01-13-2013 07:43 AM

Good for you !!! he's a keeper for sure ...

oldtnquiltinglady 01-13-2013 08:33 AM

My DH is a keeper by my standards because he tolerates me as much as I tolerate him.....sometimes we have to take a deep breath and back off....and sometimes we go in in total agreement. That's OK with me. We both say we're the best thing that ever happened to the other.

However, I do have one son who is a wonder in my sewing room. He has learned all the ins and outs of running a LA machine, and has created several great quilting designs, and does all of my LA quilting (for me, for my sisters, and for my many friends who need a long armer). Plus, he keeps my sewing room decently clean; as much as one can with me as owner. I am a clutter-bug (mess doesn't bother me when I am creating), a hoarder (when I want to go to Whittle's he goes with me and doesn't say "do you really think you'll use that"); am I lucky, or am I lucky.....

Raggiemom 01-13-2013 08:50 AM

What a wonderful husband :)

cowgirlquilter 01-13-2013 08:59 AM

Awwwwwww that is soooo awesome!

DorisPa 01-13-2013 10:38 AM

He is a keeper

MimiBug123 01-13-2013 10:41 AM

I think Dunster and I got our DHs from the same place. Mine is precious and takes good care of me, but I KNOW I don't want him in y sewing room! LOL!

sharin'Sharon 01-13-2013 11:22 AM

My hubby wouldn't work very well in the sewing room; and I definitely don't let him handle a paint brush!!! He likes to pitter with woodworking (occasionally). He can mentally create things that can be helpful.

nstitches4u 01-13-2013 11:35 AM

He is definitely a keeper!

Well I just figure while I was keeping all the duds away they got the good ones.LOL What a sweet man.

jcrow 01-13-2013 02:02 PM

My husband knows nothing about sewing. But he's my biggest fan! Whenever I make a block, he goes on and on about it. I gave him my king size quilt that the LAer praised my work. He was so happy and he immediately put it in his closet because he doesn't want anything to happen to it. We have 2 dogs who sleep on the bed.
He always comes in my sewing room and lets me show off all my goodies and acts excited for me. Every quilt I make, he asks if it is for him. He's so great. But don't help me please!!!!

carolynjo 01-13-2013 03:30 PM

After 50 years, mine has learned to cook breakfast and do a few simple things and I am grateful for that. Lucky you girls who DHs can sew as well as cook and build things for you!

jeanharville 01-13-2013 06:19 PM

I enjoy listening to you gals brag on your sweet husbands. We are so lucky to have good men. Mine can't even sew on a button, but he's good about doing the house work so I can sew. We've been married 39 years and we're both better for the wear :>)

BCM's Mom 01-13-2013 06:21 PM

Lucky girl!

Minister 01-13-2013 07:39 PM

You ladies are so blessed! Mine just work and complain. So I sew and enjoy. I never let my situations define my destiny!!!

imnywoman 01-14-2013 04:03 PM
