How much? How big? Edie

Deborah12687 08-19-2010 04:45 AM

The tool chest has 8 drawers and it measures 20" long X 10 1/2" wide by 16" high. The price is $79.99 and they do come up on sale now and again.

what is the super grip handle? is that the grip for the long ruler?

niizh 08-19-2010 05:16 AM

The replacement blades for my olfa cutter has a hexagon or notched center, the blades at HF appear to be completely round. Does this cause a problem for anyone.

piepatch 08-19-2010 05:24 AM

I noticed the center of the HF blades are different too, and wondered the same thing. I am going to try mine first in an older cutter and see if there is a problem with it. The positive posts here about the blades make me think the blades will work fine though.

debbieoh 08-19-2010 05:50 AM

What are the grips called please? I tried finding them on the website and can't seem to find them HELP!!!

Norene B 08-19-2010 05:53 AM

You can also order them here at this site online.

I was having blade problems and when I went to the Ergonomic blade booth at the Sewing Expo (forgot their names) they told me not to buy the blades with the notches for the regular rotary cutters because they wear unevenly so now I make sure I buy bades with a round hole in the middle.
I will have to go back and look for the handle and see what else I can find. I bought the 10 packs of blades and they work great.

They also have things in the assisted living section like magnifying lights that hook to a table, bath safety grip handle that might work to hold rulers, etc.

What is a snap bag?

I love going to the hardware store for quilting supplies!

Again Thank you!!!

Bluphrog 08-19-2010 06:21 AM

I searched for the word "suction" to find them.

Does anyone know of a Harbor Freight store in New Hampshire?

I tried a Loew's over the weekend in upstate New York; they don't carry round carpet cutters blades.

I live in NH also I did a search for stores within 100 miles and there are HF's in MA, CT, and RI. I work in MA so I may take a trip to Worcester one day.

hkakusgps 08-19-2010 06:48 AM

Oh my, thank you so much for this tip...who knew Harbor Freight tools would help us quilters. I agree with someone else who said more $$$ for fabric

icon17 08-19-2010 07:09 AM

I checked at HF and still don't know what your all talk'in about :?: I saw no Roto blades :?: and now grip handles :?: ;)

icon17 08-19-2010 07:13 AM

Are they round :?: The only carpet cuters I've ever seen are not round :?:

Donnasue 08-19-2010 07:20 AM

Lakayser,

I had a problem figuring it out as well-but one of our fellow quilters posted a pic of them-if you have a Harbor Freight near you (the online store is backordered on these blades), then the item number for the blades is: 97642. They come 2/pkg at 1.49. That is a steal.

Donnasue

jrider 08-19-2010 07:32 AM

WOW! Who would have ever thought of Harbor Freight!! It is my husbands favorite place. lol THANKS

All but the very old computerized machines have a magnetic shield. There is no worry with a magnet pin cushion being around the machine.

Lady Diana 08-19-2010 08:04 AM

Call ahead of time and have them check their inventory.
My store was showing 6 packets and had zero in the store.
Online they are back ordered with no notification when they come in. The only thin you can do is continually call the store every week...

The notched edges around the center of an Olfa blade are for built-in obsolescence. In other words, they work kind of like a saw-blade, and will eventually saw off the post the blade is attached to, making it necessary to buy a new Olfa rotary cutter, not just replace the blades. That is what I heard another rotary cutter company explain at a booth at the Sewing Expo in Puyallup, WA a couple of years ago.

The Fiskars replacement blades are round in the center, exactly like the ones found at Harbor Freight. They have always worked perfectly well in my Olfa cutters, and are usually less expensive. Now, can't wait to go to town for a visit to Harbor Freight!!

user15356 08-19-2010 08:10 AM

To be sure of your size, trace around your old blade and take the paper with you...............

sewweary 08-19-2010 08:23 AM

went to HF yesterday 50 miles away, they had 1 package. left there drove 50 miles to another store they didnt have any. came home and them on line. they fit 45mm fiskers.

I am trying to figure out what a super grip holder is too. I Google it but it doesn't go anywhere that I think a quilter would use it.

There is a safety grip handle under the assisted living section that I found. The cutter blades fit an Olfa cutter.

And what are they? I think I figured it out. I saw that its a handle with suction cups on it that grips your ruler when cutting.

mzsooz 08-19-2010 08:47 AM

Don't bother going to the one in Grand Junction, Colorado!! I just wiped them out of blades LOL Can't wait to get home to Salt Lake and empty those stores too! :-D :-D

There is one in West Jordan that I know about.

Don't forget about the 20% coupon and coupon for a free small LED flashlight for Harbor Freight in your Sunday coupon flyer sections too.

I use the bath safety handle for the same purpose others use the quilt handle gripper. I got one on sale at Bed, Bath & Beyond, plus a 20% off coupon. Turned out to be much cheaper and works exactly the same. In fact I believe it IS the same thing, just labeled different for quilters. And marked UP for quilters.

RV Gloria 08-19-2010 10:29 AM

good luck in finding them in stock...DH carried me there to day we have to drive 47 miles one way...we had our RV in Raleigh having some work done on it..we went to pick it up and to Harbor Freight...they were out of the blades...but they had the tool they fit in and there were 3 blades with it (as posted before) for a total of $4.30...DH said well that is cheaper than what you have been paying and you can throw the handle away...so I got one...when we got home I went on line to order some more and they are on back order...we will be leaving for FL Sept. 19 and we stay in Charleston SC for a week and Jacksonville FL for a week and they both have the store...so maybe I can find blades there if not I will order when we get to Tampa....

Granny K 08-19-2010 10:45 AM

what do you use the suction cup handle for

granny k

grandme26 08-19-2010 11:15 AM

Suction cup handles are used on the rulers to hold them in place while you cut. Mine is oraginally a bathtub safety handle but when I saw it used in a picture on this board I have used one for the ruler. It is wonderful. Keeps fingers out of the way of the cutters and keeps the ruler from slipping.

Granny K 08-19-2010 11:18 AM

Thanks every much I will have to go and get one. which is the best just one or the double one
