Guess what I just found!

I was walking to the subway from work and I found 12 copies of American Quilter on the street. The issues are from the 80s and 90s. They're full of amazing pictures, stories, patterns. It felt like someone left them there just for me!

sharon b 09-15-2012 06:17 PM

Oh how fun ! and something relaxing to read on the subway :)

cad_queen_2000 09-15-2012 06:19 PM

quiltlonger 09-15-2012 06:26 PM

better than finding a dollar bill or change!!

Suze9395 09-15-2012 06:31 PM

What a wonderful surprise!

spokanequilter 09-15-2012 06:34 PM

Wow! What a great find! It will be fun to see what was hot in quilting a decade or two ago...

Pickles 09-15-2012 06:38 PM

Wow thats so weird !

DogHouseMom 09-15-2012 07:09 PM

Great find!! And here I thought I got lucky when a guild had a sale and I bought a mess of them ... four for a quarter. Free is always better!

Jingle 09-15-2012 07:23 PM

You will see how things have changed in the quilting world. Lots of changes, for the better.

I have a really nice friend that I met on the board that has been giving me her old magazines from 2006-2012. She put a note on the board a couple of years ago, and every once in a while she will email me to pick some up. I'm talking about fifty at a time. I am loving life.

Sarah in Brooklyn 09-16-2012 03:46 AM

Unfortunately, I couldn't get a seat!

ptquilts 09-16-2012 03:50 AM

The quilting fairy smiled on you!

luana 09-16-2012 04:44 AM

What a treasure! I could read quilting magazines all day and never get to my machine. Kind of like cookbooks, I never make it to the kitchen either.

PaperPrincess 09-16-2012 04:51 AM

WOW! My niece went to a resale shop and got me a stack also. It's so much fun looking at the ads too! You can see the companies and products that have stood the test of time.

Quiltshaker 09-16-2012 05:05 AM

A lucky find for you. I have some of my old quilt magazines that I go through from time to time and lots of things have changed, but many patterns, etc. have stayed the same. So glad you found them.

Fuzzykittenbutt 09-16-2012 05:50 AM

Awesome find Sarah! Have fun with them!

BTW I love your avatar; the cats have a sort of yin and yang and heart-shaped theme going on. Slightly modified they might make a cute design for an applique...hmm.... Are they your cats?

Sarah in Brooklyn 09-16-2012 08:28 AM

They're not - my cats don't get along that well!

Carol Ann 09-17-2012 05:07 AM

What a fun find. If you decide to make any of the quilts, I hope you will show pictures!! Enjoy!!

Amythyst02 09-17-2012 05:48 AM

How lucky for you!!

jude by the sea 09-17-2012 06:16 AM

Cool! It so fun to find things let alone things that you treasure.

Maire 09-17-2012 07:34 AM

My son lives in Brooklyn & often finds "treasures" that have been put on the curb for anyone to take (a daughter lives in a large city in CA. & they do the same thing there) every once in a while he'll call about a curb side sewing machine to check if it is one he should rescue for me.

jbj137 09-17-2012 07:44 AM

The Quilt Gods were looking down on you.

MonaMcC 09-17-2012 11:52 AM

I bet there's an avid quilter out there somewhere racking her brain trying to remember where she put them down!

QandE2010 09-17-2012 01:50 PM

I think an angel from heaven knew you would take good care of them. Congrats on your find.

SFester 09-17-2012 02:10 PM

That is fantatic! Now you have a true treasure....

LadyElisabeth 09-17-2012 05:17 PM

There are so many patterns that are still the same over the decades, just made with different colors. Should give you a lot of inspiration. Have fun.

LoisM 09-17-2012 05:29 PM

How strange! LOL! But good for you.

Caswews 09-17-2012 06:38 PM

Sometimes the "old" tips are the best tips in the magazines. Then sometimes one scratches their head and wonders !LOL

BETTY62 09-17-2012 06:59 PM

What a great find. I'm sure it will be a lot of fun to look through them and see what kind of quilt patterns they were making 10 and 20 years ago.

Maureen 09-17-2012 07:10 PM

I bought about 25 at The Bennington Quilt Festival for .50 a piece. They are fantastic.

lynnie 09-17-2012 07:59 PM

AuntieD 09-18-2012 05:28 PM

Enjoy your treasure!!

pinkberrykay 09-18-2012 06:53 PM

What a great find, enjoy your new stash of magazines hope you can find some great quilting patterns.

NanaCsews2 09-18-2012 07:28 PM

That was my thought, then my second thought was can't wait to read all the posts to see if someone claims them and can prove it. Now, wouldn't that be something!
I have been to many many sales with sewing items and never found anything for the prices many of you have posted. Around here they want $2-3 each. Fair price I suppose but have to save those pennies for the fabric.

luvstoquilt 09-21-2012 09:18 PM

WOW...that was a great find! I hope you had a good time reading those books...Did your bucket list grow?
