Guild Meeting in the dark! Oh my!
 

https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...s/birthday.gif Our guild met on Monday at our church meeting space for the first time since February. Hooray! We met in the gym so we were safely seated far apart. The meeting was just about to start when heavy rain and lightening began to cause the lights to flicker. ....and you guessed it..our lights went out! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/eek.png The gym had skylights so we weren't in total darkness.


The President used her smart phone light as a flashlight so she could read her notes and conduct the business portion of the meeting. Each program chair stood and held a phone light to give their committee report. Next came Sew & Tell. Two members stood on either side of the quilt being shown and shined their cell phone flashlights onto the quilt.


Have any of you had a guild meeting start out and then have an unexpected event turn things in a different direction?

That sounds like an adventure. I'm glad your meeting continued, smart thinking.

Not recently, but during my tenure as president, we had to evacuate for a fire alarm. Since it was a Saturday, there wasn't anyone around to ask when it was safe to return. I searched the VA center campus and found a security guard who wasn't aware we were there. So he came later to tell us when to return. On another occasion, there was snow during the meeting, but it got bad during the after lunch class. The teacher was very cooperative, shortened the class, and sent us home with a pattern to finish. He was available by email for questions and we posted our pics to his FB account for him to see.

At least you carried on and made the best of it. One time we were at a friends house playing cards and lost electricity because of a bad storm. They brought out a kerosene lamp and we went on playing cards. Lots of fun and we do what we have to do. Made funny memories to laugh about later.

Since I have been program director of our guild I have been blessed only with COVID. Our last meeting was in Feb. We are scheduled for July and I am looking forward to it. It means that a lot of the programs scheduled will have to be reworked but I am flexible. No power outages (yet). The most unexpected event was having "soldiers" from the ROTC walk through out meeting. It was a bit strange and they interrupted a speaker..

I do feel for our program chair with no meetings or workshops since Feb and having to reschedule or cancel the many things that she had set up. One thing she is doing is getting small groups together to do a medallion challenge where we work in smaller groups of various skill level, much like a quilt along, which we should be able to do much of our group "discussion" via Zoom or emails.

As far as interesting meetings--the funniest was during a summer month when the kindergarten summer craft camp was working in the room next door (we meet in comm. Center) and the teacher had to walk them through our meeting room to go meet their moms--one of the little boys hollared "good bye, grandmas!" as he walked through. The teacher was mortified but we all laughed--at least 90% of us are gray haired and grandmas! Little stinker!
