Guild Newsletters
I belong to a Quilting Guild that has a large number of members. For cost and convenience purposes, almost all of us have opted to receive the Newsletter by e-mail. A hacker got in and we are receiving very 'real' looking emails. I haven't opened any of the attachments (just deleted the email) and I'm hoping the other members are are doing the same. We are having a meeting tomorrow night and I wonder how this will be handled.
Has this happened to any of you? If so, what have you done? So sad. |
We have a website to read our newsletter so while we read it electronically the newsletter isn't sent.
The person sending the emails has the highjacker. It's up to her to get it cleared up from her email account.
We have a website also. Unfortunately/fortunately it is open to anyone. doubt anyone but quilters would be interested anyway.
That's exactly our thought - who would be interested in hacking quilters? Crazy world!!

Newsletters e mailed from someone's personal computer are open to hacking. Hackers love those e mail addresses! Change to a website and password protect it for members if you need to.
That is strange. We have a newsletter on-line that anyone can access
Our guild just went to the email newsletters -- they are also posted on our new website. So far no problems.
Our guild set up a "group" on Facebook. One then Has to "ask" to join the Facebook group and after approved has full access. We post all photos and meeting info this way.

If your newsletters contain members' email addresses, if the newsletter is on your website, the email addresses can be taken from the newsletter/web site and used for all kinds of purposes.
