I went to pick up my FW which had been in for a tune-up.
DH was looking at a Mega Quilter set up with stand and was asking about functions. The dealer said he had a used set up which had been traded in on an embroidery machine. The price was "reasonable" and DH turned to me and said if I wanted a quilting set up, we should buy this today. The operative word was WE!! I said YES :) The machine is in the house, but the stand and other components are in the back of the car. They will be unloaded tomorrow. I have never purchased something without doing exhaustive research. I am still in the state of shock.... So I have read the instruction book (once) and have come to the board. My plan is to get to know how the machine works while setting upon a regular table. Threading, bobbins, etc. I think this machine has a 9-inch throat plate opening. Do you have any suggestions? This is a new learning curve, but I am so blessed to have my DH and this new equipment. Thanks :) |
Woo Hoo Congratulations!! :D:D:D

Thank you, Amma. I'm still in the state of shock :)

Probibly have a Great Machine !! Can check on here about the Pfaff Grand Quilters, had a Dealer tell me these are basically the same machine, I have the Pfaff and biggest challenge is the Tension, as you reach back to cut the thread can spin the Dial and knock the tension off (solved with a little piece of Tape!! )
Enjoy the new to you Baby!! So much easier than no frame!! |
Congrats, Kay!!! How exciting. I would do a bunch of research on your machine and frame. I have heard good things about the Viking Mega Quilter. Use the search function above to search this forum. There is a Yahoo Group for the Viking Mega Quilter. I'm sure the members would be happy to help you out.

Wooooo Hooooo

First of all, "WE"? "DH" "MACHINE"; all used in the same sentence without any bad attitude? WTG.
Second - Congrats! What a great machine. I have been looking at those! |
Congrats!!! That is so awesome!!! :)
|
I have one on a HQ frame. It's great to learn and practice on. Have fun. I love mine. But I can't wait to get a large machine.
|
Congratulations....and it's great to have a supportive husband.
|
wow, Congrats!
|
Yah, supportive DH! Believe me, this was the first time DH offered any household money toward a machine.....
He's been in sewing machine shops prior to this, but I was shopping with my own money as I was still working (outside the home). This is probably different because we are now both retired and on limited incomes. He tells me that we made an investment. I am not going in to business, strictly a hobby. By the way, the tune up on the FW was from my account :) |
Yes, I have started the research!
I discovered PiecemealQuilts.com has a wealth of info, too. My DD and DSIL had lots of patience yesterday when we Skyped them in Virginia. They saw how excited WE are about this set up.... All of my children and their spouses respect and love my husband. They know that we are a team on this adventure and DH is good to their mother. |
There is a yahoo group for Viking MQ/Pfaff GQ (same machine) owners, and I love it. They are very helpful & have lots of suggestions. PfaffHobbyGrandQuilter is the group name, if you're on Yahoo! Groups, do a search & request to join.

There is a Yahoo Group for these. I am sure you can get help there.

I have had the Mega Quilter for almost 5 years. Even tho I have the frame, I don't use it. I do a lot of FMQ and I just love it. I use prewound bobins from Superior Thread, my machine love's em. I don't do large quilts so the set up I have is perfect for me.

Lucky you have fun.
