I read on a site somewhere that this person used hair spray (aqua net) as a basting spray and it works great. It's got pretty much the same ingredients as the 505 spray, is repositionable, washable and under 2 bucks for a huge can!

Anyone try this?

I'm seriously considering it!

Well, the cheap stuff is sure sticky enough! Haven't tried it. :? Might try it on a practice piece to try to machine quilt!

I don't think I'd use it -- I've ruined too many tops using it as hairspray. It stains like the dickens.

It does stain...my DH loves that brand and sometimes I use it. I always spray before I get all the way dressed.

Couldn't hairspray melt the batting...if it wasn't a natural type of batting...
I'm thinking like what nail polish remover does to some things...
Just curious

Don't do it!!! I have tried it, unfortunately. It has more water than basting spray so you have to soak it to make it sticky enough for fabric. It still doesn't stick the fabrics together like basting spray, but it sure will make your fingers super sticky.

So, you are dealing with super sticky fingers and soaking wet fabric that still won't stay where you want it to. I used it on 6 blocks for a Quilt as You Go and I went straight back to the basting spray.

JMHO:)

Thanks for the heads up from someone who has been there! Now there is another lesson I don't have to learn first hand! :?
Loads of thanks, Lynette!

No problem:) I wouldn't want anyone to go through the mess it made for me. I had oversprayed hair spray in my carpet..LOL
