Half Hex

Can anyone help me out, I am wanting to make some Christmas table runners this year for extra Thanksgiving gifts, and really like one that calls for a 10" half hex ruler. At this point I have only been able to find it at one place and due to Superstorm Sandy my monies is a little tight and the ruler is a bit pricey. So here is my question I do have a 10" triangle and was going to try to make one but is it really "half"? Or can someone direct me as to anywhere else I might be able to get one in the next week or so? thanks!

Assuming, it's a 60 degree triangle, if you sew together three same-sized triangles together, you get a half-hexagon.

As long as you use the same size throughout the quilt, all the pieces will go together smoothly.

If the whole quilt is made of half-hexagons, just pick a size and go with it.

eta:
Sometimes when a measurement is quoted for a hexagon (or half-hex), it's based on the length of a side, sometimes it's across from flat top to bottom, sometimes it's across from point to point.
Which one is your pattern using?

I used my large 60* triangle ruler to do mine. I will try and post a picture of mine that the base was 9 and 1/2 and I wanted the narrower top part to finish at 4 inches sewn. I wanted the piece my center with a 4 inch square in the red middle.

I thought I'd be smart and cut a big hex in half. Doesn't work! You have to add the 1/4" seam allowance to one half which makes the other half too small. Then if you don't cut it in half on the straight of grain you have a big problem. You have to mark the grain on each hex before cutting or have a terrific memory. LOL. Missouri Star has the 10" hex ruler on special right now if that helps. http://www.missouriquiltco.com/catal...3+Half+Hexagon
