Auntpiggylpn posted a great idea. But I was wondering how this half Lonestar would look as a sun rise (possibly out of an art type quilt) Question--would this have been an 8 point or a 6 point Lonestar?

You could make it into a half circle quilt with the star points pointing up.
Mounted to a piece of foam insulation board it could hang over a sofa or a bed for a modern piece of art.

The sunrise look is a great idea. I was thinking of taking two quarters of the lone star, having the two center parts of the lone star pointing toward each other, so that the lone star points point to the top of the quilt and the bottom of the quilt. This would make a quilt longer than it is wide, unless you do something to make it more square. Alternatively you could have two quilts with one quarter of the lone star in the center.

Thanks for all the input. The lone star is made of colored Christmas prints. I have no sofa table or fireplace so was thinking of bed size quilt. I do like the idea of splitting the star. Thanks for the link to 'better off thread' this looks like the way I might go.

I think you could make a beautiful quilt with half of a lone-star!

I would probably applique it, rather than try to piece it to a larger quilt.

I too had printed off the link that auntPiggyLpn had provided some time ago for the Lone Star that I was interested in making. I think that would be an incredible use of your find! Can you show us a pic of what you got?

I thought depending on how many points you have you can diassemble them and space them out having either the background fabric or replace with solid coordinated pieces. Does that make sense?

I have seen seen one half of a Lone Star on a solid gray background in a modern quilt book/show.
