Half square triangle on a roll success!! You have to try it!!!
I am making an wedding present quilt for my niece, and a while back I bought a few rolls of different size half square triangles at a quilt show. Well, this variation called for 84 3" hst squares, and I thought "oh boy", days of cutting 7/8" variation square terrors, and marking them, and sewing them, then cutting them. Then I remembered the hst roll. I followed the directions, using wof and in no time they were done! The expense is well worth it. Try them when you are faced with the 7/8" terrors.
Yeah, I am a happy quilter, saved days of work for me. |
how wonderful that you found a great product for your project.

Do you have more information on the product? Thanks for sparking our interest-sounds like a great time savior.

You can get them on a roll and at alot of LQS you get the Triangle Papers in different sizes or a variety pack. I actually got Triangulation software 1 and two. It's great you can print off what ever size you need. I got #2 because it deals with 1/16 increments and also ways to do flying geese. It was about 30 for each software package but well worth it. I print it out on drawing paper from the #store cut to size. You can use regular computer paper but the drawing paper is lighter in weight.

I have a couple of rolls of different sizes but haven't had the chance to use them yet. Now you have me excited to try them.
|
Triangulations software allows you to print them out at home and not have to keep buying them from the store:> I love Triangulations because if I need something at 8 PM I can print out the sheet and get sewing! I bought mine from Connecting Threads.

It is called "triangles on a roll" - you can find it online at the Fat Quarter Shop and other places. I was thinking about buying triangulations, but I like the very thin paper of the roll, tears off so easy. I love this product.

I did the same thing. =) I pulled out some triangle papers that I had bought over 10 years ago. =) They work like a dream thats for sure!
I did a quick google search for Triangle Papers and found this.. http://www.quiltime.com/downloadA.html and this... http://www.blockcentral.com/a-halfsq...glepaper.shtml |
As an alternative, I have a program from Quilt Pro called Triangle Magic. You can down load it from their web site for about 15.00. Once you have it, you can print up as many HST sheets as you need in all sizes from 1" to 7 " in 1/8 increments. The instructions are all there.
I have no affiiation with Quilt Pro, but I am a happy user. |

When I got my first roll of Triangles on a Roll, I made all 800 of them. It was addictive.

There are sites that has print your own. I don't have the links handy but a google search should bring them up. Also I found whole page stencils of each common size of HST at a quilt show. I prefer to print but a stencil is super nice when I run out of printer ink right in the middle! I have a 7/8" ruler that is so handy to cut strips to make my own. I have the 1/2" hst marker, the Wonder Cut ruler that makes hundreds of hsts in no time, Quilt in a Day hst ruler which is great for quarter hsts, a new HST maker ruler still in the package, Inklingo and
Triangulation software, and the Go dies of the common size of HST. I use a different method each time I make HSTs. I enjoy having options! One method may not suit my mood at the time. |
One thing to watch out for: if you put these paper patterns on a copy machine, they do not always come out perfectly. It's called copy machine distortion. At a 4-H quilt camp (ages 10 to 18) we worked with 8 1/2 x 11 sheets that had six 3 inch squares on it. The bottom two were not quite right. One of girls had to cut all her HST's to a smaller size to compensate.

I don't think I have seen any triangles on a roll, is there a you tube video on how to use them?
|
You are so right. Great product. I was doing an inside border on a queen quilt and used this and it worked great! The speed and accuracy was the real bonus.
|
The quilttime site is a real keeper! Thanks so much!

I have used this product several times and like it a lot.

They are also called THANGLES
http://www.thangles.com/ http://shop.millhousequilts.com/brow...FSoZQgodhx3i4A VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4p-vpLScRw (The video show how to make qtr sq triangles using the same size thangle) One $5.00 pkg will usually make a full quilt depending upon the pattern |
I LOVE LOVE LOVE my trangulation CD. I can make as many as I need anytime and any size I want.I can even make the most perfect flying geese with this hardware. I highly recommend it.
|
I've also used Thangles...www.thangles.com, they are great if you're doing a pattern, but I mostly do scrappies, so I do the 7/8ths thing alot. I love the process...relaxing for me.
|
As an alternative I like Kay England's half and quarter triangle rulers. Her method eliminates the 7/8ths measurements and subcutting of squares. Also a portion of the price goes toward breast cancer research. I think it saves on fabric, too.
|
I like to print off my HST, you can find free sites online to print them.
My guild did a swap of HST, we each did 3 different sheets. With 18 participants we had about 6 months to finish the project. It only took about 10 minutes to do each paper, I did a few at a time when the mood hit me. In the end you had about enough to make a twin bed sized quilt if you put borders on it. |

Are "Thangles" the same thing as the paper triangles you all are talking about??
