There isn't anything on the internet about half square elongated. The only thing I found was on Nancy's Notion site. But after I made this charity wheelchair top, I did see something with a method of piecing these elongated triangles but can't find the info!

Interesting thread. Thanks for asking the question. I have tried various methods but didn't know about the MQG tutorial. It really makes the best sense!

I'm not sure if this is the answer you are looking for but, you can press one of the squares in half with your iron, then sew 1/4 inch on each side of the crease then cut it into on the crease.. That is the only way I can think of where you don't need a ruler. Jenny Doan on Missouri Star Quilt Company has tutorials of this on her web site or utube.
