I've done hand applique with the traditional needle turn for quite a while. I've always loved it, but it takes so long, I've been trying to learn machine applique, different methods, etc.

So, I tried doing the freezer paper method and I didn't like it. It just seemed to me like its much easier to just do the regular needle turn than fooling with all that.

Is it just me, or am I doing something wrong?

I am pinning the freezer paper side to the cut out applique, then ironing the seam allowance to the freezer paper, and using the blind stitch to hand stitch it down, leaving a inch or so undone so I can then pull the paper out.

It just seems like too many "extra" steps. I can do the regular needle tuck method faster.

I looked around on this site, but don't see how you get the rest of the blocks. Block 1 has a January date???

Donnajean, look on the left hand side where it says "Categories" and under it it says "Block of the Month" , click on that, and it will take you to all the postings with all the patterns to it.

The very first posting is about the 2011 BOM, so just scroll on past it, and down at the main bottom, you hit "next" to get back to the earlier ones.

Its a BEAUTIFUL quilt. The new one for next year looks like its going to be a stunner too!

I love the look of hand applique and the freezer paper turned under type, but I absolutely hate doing any hand work. In fact, I think I'm highly allergic to it. I do a lot of applique but I do the raw edge type. It's not as pretty as the other but it works for me.

no don't think you are doing anything wrong with freezer paper method, like you I do alot of hand turned applique much more satisfying and no extras to mess about with
