Hand binding to minkee and fleece question
 

I have only backed a quilt once in minkee and had issues with the binding. I sew to the front with machine then hand stitch it to the back. I guess my question is how do you get the binding to "hold" in the minkee or fleece? The minkee has stretched and now there are plenty of holes in the back and the quilt is ruined in my opinion. Should I just stitch to the minkee side and hand stitch to the front? Will I have the same problem with the machine stitches pulling and creating holes over time. I want to use both fleece and minkee as backing because they are so soft but not at the expense of holes in less than a year.

I do fleece backings all the time and have no problem. I have never tried Minkee. It is a lot heavier than fleece, so you might have problems with it pulling apart.

I have never used minkee, so this is hypothetical. Could you stabilize the edge where the binding will attach with a strip of lightweight fusible? It would make the edge a little less cuddly than the rest of the quilt, but it might prevent distortion and holes. Good luck!

I've used Minkee backs on a number of quilts - Because, IMHO, Minkee sucks up the thread, I go ahead and machine stitch my binding. I felt (& still do) it is a more durable option!
