Hand dyed look without the price of the real thing
 

I totally get why hand dyed is worth what is charged, but I would like to trim the budget on my next project. I would like to find and buy some yardage that is graduated in values so I can use one fabric for several variations within that dominant color. I bought something similar to what I am seeking but cut the selvage off before realizing I would want more and cannot remember where I made my initial purchase. Plus, they only carried a couple of color ways and I would like to find a larger range of choices.

This type of fabric is called ombre. If you google 'ombre quilting fabric' you should find what you are looking for.

Gradient is another good search term.

Dyeing your own is a much less expensive way to get the colors you like

I like to use McKenna Ryan prints in this way. She has several that have colour gradients from one selvage to the other.

I think I stumbled upon the fabric line you're looking for! Check out Gradations by Caryl Bryer Fallert. There's also Gradations II and Essential Gradations.

There is one that I really love it is called Gelato Gradation and it is by EE Schenck. I got mine from Joy's Fabrics at a quilt show. They also have the Caryl Bryer Fallert Gradation Essentials. They do mostly shows and don't have an online store but you can see the fabric on their website www.joysfabrics.com and then email them. The thing about the Gelatos is that they have a very fine line going through them and it almost gives it a shimmer effect - it still reads as a solid.
