just wondering if anyone uses these hand held sewing "machines for simple stuff- such as strip sewing.
the weather is finally getting nice out and I am working on a project that is time sensitive. it would be great if i had one to take to work so I can sew strips together. Singer has one out- I think Walmart carries out -I think for about $30-40. I am assuming they work on batteries. thanks! |
the ones I have seen & I actually have one around somewhere, use a chainstitch. It will work if you are okay with that. I think mine took batteries and had a cord.

I've seen other posts about this and the concensus is - no, not good. You'd be better off to get a little Jenomi one for approx $49 or $59 at Hancocks. My granddaughter got one for Christmas and it stitches a very good straight stitch. I've actually seen some Brothers at Wal Mart for less than $100.

Hi and welcome to the board. i have a hand held Singer, but never tried it for this purpose (stripping). Hmmm, will have to give it a try.

Does it actually makes the sewing go faster? I would find it hard to keep seams the same size. Good luck.

Those micro machines aren't made for creating accurate seam allowances.

I have a couple battery operated machines that I take camping I got them at Rite Aid at Christmas time. They sew well and Granddaughter loves sewing on them. Reg price was $20.00 but I paid only 10 for one of them. I have one of the hand held ones it just chain stitches and is very hard to keep a straight seam.

don't waste your money on the hand held ones...they really aren't worth working with. My Brother in law bought one to put the badges on his uniforms.

Thanks ladies for your thoughts and opinions. the thoughts about sewing a straight line- never occured to me (duh)- I was just focused on being able to work on my quilt (I need to get it done quickly) where ever I go will be a good thing. but not at the price of wonky seams.
