I don't know what's "right" but I've done several quilts with both machine stitching and hand stitching. It's been said before: "It's YOUR quilt."

I had to finish a t-shirt quilt that way. And just this week, I finished a baby quilt that way, too. It's whatever the quilt tells you to do. (I'm NO PRO, but I do get a lot of great advice from the awesome people on this board. They give me confidence to try new things.)
