Has any of you quilters made a wood hand quilting frame? I would like to make or find a quilting frame for the floor and also see what different kinds for the lap?

Thanks everyone, lets have fun discussing about hand quilting on this thread!

I have been surfing to find a small one as I don't have room for a big one at this time.

I am surfing online to try to find some links for free patterns so I can show my hubby to make me one or have a guy that makes wood things to make it for me.

What kinds do you have? Floor frames or Lap Frames

Exactly what kind? One on a stand or one you keep in your lap?

craftybear 06-28-2011 11:38 AM

My mother used an handmade frame for years, after she past they were given to her quilting ladies. I have purchased the EZ3 off the internet and I really like it. It has 3 sizes you can use. Baby crib, full up to queen size. I'm working on a full size now, almost finished. They are worth the money if you hand quilt.

i inherited like smaller planks of wood and wrapped them with strips of fabric like old sheeting and then could pin the quilt layers to this fabric. used c clamps to hold it together-the large size. some people fix some type of holder to put under the frame but i just used chairs in the basement.

I found this at a thrift store. The leader cloth is brand new, no pin holes at all. You adjust the size by sticking dowels or maybe twist tie in the holes. The boards are 24" long. No instructions but easy to figure out. If you want it pm me. I have never used it.

I use a big oval wooden hoop, so I can sit in a comfy chair while quilting ;-)
