I have a question - do I need to thread baste after having used a spray basting product if I want to hand quilt? I put together a small quilt for my GD and since I had planned to machine quilt it, I used a spray basting product. Well....I've changed my mind and now I want to hand quilt it. I'm a little concerned because I am a "bare handed" quilter (I don't use a frame, a hoop, or thimbles when I hand quilt) I do think I should baste around the edges, but I'm not sure if thread basting all over is needed or if it would be a waste of time.

Just a note: For years I was reluctant to use spray basting, but after reading many positive comments on this forum I decided to take the plunge and try it. I love it! I have not had a single pucker on my machine quilted items since I've started using it. I hope to have the same great results with hand quilted items.

You would need to thread baste only around the edge, especially since it is a small quilt.

I would baste or pin the edges :D

I hand quilt without a hoop and I've found spray basting works well with a few pins added for a little more stability. I probably place them 8-10 inches apart. I've never basted the edges but it would probably help around the edges. I'll try that next time. Good luck with your project.

when using it on smal things, i do not baste. But you do what ever makes you feel comfortable

I have learned ( the hard way ) that basting around the edge is a good idea.
