Hand quilting with big stitches
I have seen pictures of quilts that were hand quilted useing big stitches ( maybe 1/4"). Has anyone here tried that method? I'm giving it some thought but haven's committed yet.

There was a thread about this just the other day. I have quilted a couple of things using (what I've heard called) a utility stitch. I used perle cotton for mine & liked it. It gives a kind of primitive look, that I like.

Thanks a bunch! Both tutes were very informative. I think I'll give it a try real soon.
Thanks again!! |
I have done it to a number of quilts; mostly ones that have a country look. I used pearl cotton and a larger needle. They work up a lot faster than traditional quilting, and the look can be quite striking. When I do a trunk show at my classes, most of the students pay a lot of attention to those samples.
I first saw the technique on Simply Quilts. Billie Lauder has a book out about it. If you have access to Sashiko supplies, those needles work well. |
