Hello all... hope you've had a lovely day... I've been practicing my hand quilting, first on a printed pattern piece about 25" square, then on a doll quilt I'd made from a kit I found in my mother's quilting treasures. My stitches are improving, but that last tie off is still pretty messy...

For more practice, I found a beginning piece I made years ago.. It's a table runner with three blocks: Jacob's ladder, churn dash and an Ohio Star. It already has a border triangular ends.

Here's my question... Where can I find some easy quilting patterns? I've come to you first, and will be searching myself online, but I figured you might be able to point me in a direction..

It's easy to hand quilt on the diagonal(bias)than the straight grain, so maybe a grid? You can just draw it on with a disappearing marker.

I hand quilt what ever design I want onto a quilt. If you have something very basic... I usually choose a fluid/flowing design..... For appliqué I usually hand quilt a grid in the background.

Please post again, and maybe we can give you a few more suggestions.

Thimblebug6000, about your fluid designs, do you simply draw them on? I've seen the templates, but couldn't one simply draw designs?

I found some easy patterns in a book called '70 classic quilting patterns'. It was published in the Dover Needlework Series.

I just used masking tape to mark off the lines in the grid when I did mine but I'm sure there is something better out there that these ladies on the QB know of.

My first handquilting was done with outline quilting, 1/4" in from every seam (so you don't have the seam allowance to sew through). You can pretty much eyeball that, but it would be easy to mark also. They make a 1/4 inch tape too.
