Hello! I received for Christmas 2 great books, Material Obsession 1 and 2. Almost too much to take in from some of these quilts!! I love the hand-quilting on them, but most use bigger stitches in perle cotton (is this embroidery thread?).

Can anyone tell me, is this bigger size of stitch and type of thread sturdy for quilts that are used regularly and machine washed?

pearl cotton is a very fine crochet cotton, it seems like it would be fine for big stitch quilting

Thanks, Kathy. The big stitches are also appealing because I can see myself finishing a bed-sized quilt much faster!

when it's done with "big" thread it doesn't look tacky at all

That's the way my niece does all of hers and they're beautiful.

My MIL was from the old country and I have a quilt she made for my son about 40-45 years ago using crochet thread. This quilt has been in the washing machine and dryer so many times, sat on, bunched up, etc etc and it has never popped a seam or quilting stitch in all those years. Has not even faded and is still going strong. I think this about covers it.
