Hand Quilting

How do you hand quilt in the summer? :) I have a quilt to repair, but it's too warm, and it's only 75.

I sit at my dining room table, and use a small hoop. I do this all year round.

I use a floor frame. I can quilt all year - on the really hot days I have a fan blowing on me.

I use my Q snap floor frame in the air conditioning.:)

I do. I just take breaks when I get too hot.

It helps to keep it off your lap and having a fan too. This will probably be my first summer of piecing and quilting as I was always working before and not into quilting last summer. It will be interesting to see if I put it away for the summer or keep going at the pace I'm going now.

In a hoop, I place the bulk of the quilt over a small folding table to keep the majority of it off my body.

I quilt in a hoop on a floor stand all year long - the only thing I don't do in summer is quilting a wool batting! :)

Not very lady like, but I sit with my legs spread and have the bulk of the quilt between them.

Hand quilting in warm/hot weather?
The a/c is on AND the ceiling fan at full speed. :o

Dragonomine 04-29-2013 04:21 AM

I don't. lol I save the quilting for when it gets cooler.

I usually use a frame during the summer. I also find that I quilt downstairs as it is cooler down there. For the most part, I usually work on hand piecing and then quilt when it cools down.

I use my floor stand and hoop... AND a small fan... love it too much to stay away!

I sometimes let the quilt sit on the table. It gets really warm in this house. Tin roof, not enough AC. Sometimes I just have to let it go until it cools down to under 100.

I live in Florida, so if I waited for it to cool too much I would be in trouble! I jus keep working and try to keep the bulk of the quilt off me..I use a Qsnap hand frame..I have the floor model too, but find it too difficult to work on, as I need to turn the quilt to work..If it gets too hot, tho I may try to find a way to adapt it...One good thing is A/C!!

i am outside when it 75. if someone asks me to do a repair for them, i tell them that it will have to wait till my outside work done for year, or have bad weather & unable to be outside. then ...it is on the table while using small hoop.

I hand quilt all year long on a floor stand in the basement where it is cooler and in winter I have a separate thermstat to crank up the heat for that room.

I'm a sewer, a yard person, and just about everything, else during the day. Of a evening, I sit in my chair, with my 3 guard dogs(ha-ha), and sit and hand quilt.. I'm a hand quilter, and I could hand quilt, from morning till night. I enjoy hand quilting. I hand quilt. all year round. Next to my chair is my Ott light, which helps tremendously.
