Hand quilting

For those who hand quilt I am going to hand quilt my first hand sewn quilt queen size gardenmothers flower garden (hexies). I would like to know what needles should I purchase?
Thank you!

Most hand quilters use 'betweens' for quilting. Size 10's are a good size to begin with.

why not get an assorted pack and find out which ones you feel most comfortable with? And remember, you have to thread them too - can be a problem if they are very tiny. I just looked at mine, 10 betweens. I can send you a package if you like, I bought a gross of them many years ago.

Many hand quilters use "betweens" - they are very short.

The bigger the number of hand sewing needles, the smaller/thinner they are.

I like 11 John James needles. When I can't get an 11 threaded, I go up to a 10. The number 12s are very thin and slide in and out of the fabric easily - but sometimes I can't get the things threaded.

Number 9s are still small and thin.

I love the size 12 betweens myself. But I do use 11's every now and again

Presencia Finca Perle Cotton #8 Thread Sampler Pack

DMC 6112/6 Aluminum Needle Threader, Blue

I was going to use this also.
Would this be good?

If you are using perle cotton # 8, it sounds like you want to “ big stitch” hand quilt? You will not want “between” as they are for hand quilting thread. There are some good YouTube videos on big stitch quilting and they might tell which needles work best.

Be sure to stitch on a practice piece first, rather than starting right in on your hexie masterpiece!

I use chenille needles or Thimblelady XL. Thimblelady is my favorite, but some of the large r threads are too big for the eye.
